TODAY IS THE ANNIVERSARY OF LAYNE STALEY & KURT COBAIN’S DEATHS

Published On April 5, 2012 | By Brett Buchanan | Alice In Chains, Nirvana

Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain committed suicide 18 years ago today on April 5, 1994.  Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley passed away 10 years ago today on April 5, 2002 due to a drug overdose.  Two icons of the Grunge scene, often imitated but never duplicated, taken away from us far too soon on the same date.

Rest in peace Layne and Kurt

    Gone but never forgotten…

Fucking legends. Waiting for the Kurt detractors and people talking about how little attention Layne’s death received (which I don’t think anyone will deny; he should have gotten the attention, as well as a better legacy to the public than his addiction).

  • rickyallan

RIP Kurt and Layne. We will never forget.

  • Kris

It is so nice to see the respect and honor paid to both of them. As a huge AIC fan, it’s nice to know how much this site respects him.

R.I.P. Layne and Kurt. You are forever missed!

I remember vividly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news of their deaths. Gone way too soon and will never be forgotten. I try to imagine what music would be like today if they didn’t leave us.

RIP Kurt and Layne, you’re sorely missed.

RI may have been a toddler when these two tragically passed away, but i grew up listening to their music and continue to today

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since Layne’s passing. I perfectly remember the day when I found out. Rehearsing with my band (all AIC fans) and coming up with a song dedicated to him. Good memories do come from bad situations. Anyway, RIP Layne.

  • raven

i remember the day … it’s also my Mom’s birthday today (she would have been 92) …. it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since we lost the greatest voice in Rock and Roll …. Layne, you are so so so missed and so loved. “imitations are pale …..”

  • cosmicatomic

Layne would probably be glad he didn’t get that much attention considering the situation.

The true fans know he’s a one of a kind legend.

  • Mark

But we should celebrate Mike McCready’s Birthday!

Life is hard, and the world can be a rough place. All any of us can do is be strong, move forward, and try to find as much happiness as we can. Unfortunately, some of us don’t make it. So all we can do is remember the good things about those who are no longer here, and be grateful for those memories about them that make us smile.

RIP Kurt & Layne…you may be gone, but won’t ever be forgotten by those who love you and what you shared with us.

To honor Kurt Cobain’s passing 18 years ago I’m publishing a novel called LOST IN THE ’90s — about a teenage boy from 2012 who travels back in time to April 1994 on the eve of Cobain’s suicide, an event that plays an integral role in the plot. Please check it out: http://tinyurl.com/6o2v443

    RIP my friends.

  • Louderthanshit333

Sad, sad day. If I ever had the chance, I would have told Layne how much his music has gotten me through terrible times in life, and how touching his and Jerrys (Kurt’s too) words meant to me.

  • johnny208
