SMASHING PUMPKINS TO RELEASE DOUBLE ALBUM VERSION OF MACHINA, TALKING TO FLOOD ABOUT REMIXING

Published On April 28, 2012 | By Brett Buchanan | Featured, Smashing Pumpkins

Here’s another excerpt from the FasterLouder interview with Billy Corgan:

Alright. Machina II is a brilliant album, have you ever thought about releasing it properly, maybe when you re-issue the others?

Yes. Our sell-out move, for Machina, is we’re going to remix the whole record and put it in its official sequence the way I’d hoped for in the beginning. I wrote it as a rock opera double album type of thing, so we’re going to remix the whole thing. I’ve already talked to Flood, and he’s been indicating he wants to be involved with that part of the process, and then we’ll finally finish the album, the way it was meant to be. How was that? Did that pass the Pitchfork meter of integrity? Me reaching into my own pockets to remix my own records so I can convince kids who didn’t like them the first time the first time to buy them again?

I prefer Machina over Machina II but I’ll purchase the double album when it comes out. There are some good songs on Machina II.

Thanks PHATJ. I really like the cover art for Oceania. Can’t wait to hear it. Just a little over a month and a half to go.

  7. Anth says:

Normally I’m a purist when it comes to archival reissues–at least for the original album; I want as much bonus material as possible. But I totally support a Machina remix. Half that album sounds like it was recorded underwater.

  8. The Incredible Mr. Mark Arm says:

    that cover is dope

  9. CagedTiger says:

Machina was the last SP album that had REALLY good songs on it, ones that moved me like earlier Pumpkins songs did… I’m talking about songs like ‘Stand inside Your Love’ and ‘This Time’. I hope there are songs of this caliber on the forthcoming album as apposed to the average at best material on ZEITGEIST and Teargarden.
