TRENT REZNOR RECEIVES GRAMMY NOMINATION, NONE FOR SMASHING PUMPKINS AND SOUNDGARDEN

Published On December 6, 2012 | By Mike Mazzarone | Featured, Grunge Report, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were nominated for a Grammy for their soundtrack for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  The Smashing Pumpkins’ Oceania and Soundgarden’s Live to Rise and Been Away Too Long singles were shut out nominations wise.  King Animal isn’t eligible for the 2013 Grammys, but will be eligible in 2014.

    why no nominations for SP???

  • DaveDave

I have no respect for Trent Reznor any more. He may as well write music for Top 40 artist.

  • Shadow on the sun

What a crock of shit. What rock songs in 2012 were better than Sg or Sp?

  • Congrats to TR

@Dave: WTF are you talking about?

Fincher’s version of TGWTDT is a fantastic movie (FAR better than the european version) and Reznor’s score for it is just a masterpiece.

  • Is he one?

Trent Reznor since “With Teeth”= Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Soundgarden and The Smashing Pumpkins aren’t treated right by the industry and the medias. Seriously.

  • SIN

Not even a nomination? Wow. Yeah, never been a huge Reznor fan so I can’t say for him.

  • hmmm

I just glanced at the nominees, and it seems they like Jack White, fun., and the Black Keys. I’ve heard these albums, and they don’t even come close to Oceania. I don’t believe the SG singles were strong enough, but let’s hope KA will get some credit with a nomination next year.

    Fuck the Grammies.

They’re becoming worse than the MTV Awards. At least those guys embrace the facts that they’re a fucking joke.

That’s what the Grammies have become, a bad joke.

I always gave the same example, although you could update this shit for every year.

Back when Black Gives Way To Blue came out, they snubbed AIC yet once again, while Beyonce walked away with 6 Grammies or something. What is wrong with these fucking people?

  • pa

It’s amazing the amount of respect the media gives the big four grunge bands but when it comes time to put their money where their mouth is they get nothing. I believe between all the bands they’ve won no more than five Grammys. Which sucks when bands like arcade fire win album of the year and nirvana nevermind, pjs ten or sg superunknown barely win anything.

  • With Negativity

    @ pa

I believe Soundgarden won 2 Grammys for Superunknown.

The Grammys is a shitty award show, however, they seemingly made a big step by having a best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category with Iron Maiden, Anthrax, and Megadeth among the nominees. I’m not a fan of any of them… but at least they have something…

  • Is he one?

@pa who are the four bands you are referring to nowadays…?

  • Britney Spears

Fuck the grammys. Faggots gave Kid Rock best rock album in 2009.

  • pa

I’m talking about the four Seattle bands…I know superunknown won a couple grammys but u would think that such a masterpiece wouldve won more, but its the grammys and they suck!!

  • Nicb115

Jack White desirves album of the year!!! I was hoping King Animal would take my spot for my fav of 2012 but Blunderbuss remains top dog.

  • HumanSauce

The Grammys mean nothing. I can’t remember the last “Best Album” winner. We know that both King Animal and Oceania are worthy of nominations. Rock music needs to have a separate awards show, because the Grammys is simply Top 40 shit.

Maybe we’ll see Dave Grohl in a DJ booth at this year’s show.

  • xsamociukx

I know all of these awards are completely shite but how can a soundtrack that was released in 2011 qualify for the 2013 Grammys? Still at least it’s not as bad as The Brits. Granted the soundtrack was the saving grace of the movie which only served the purpose of helping out filmgoers who “don’t do subtitles”.

  • Robert

    Grammies are bullshit.

  • Shayla

I don’t care about the Grammys, but kind of thought Oceania would be nominated based upon how many critics loved the album. At least King Animal’s eligible next year for those who care.

  • Is he one?

Like any of the bands that are nominated could ever dream of writing/performing/recording a song as good as say “violet rays”. Damn!

  • Deviate

Grammies are indeed a crock of shit. Bullshit popularity contest. Awards for art based on popularity.

In other words, who gives a shit about winning a Grammy.

  • Deviate

A Grammy does not make me say “hey, I’m gonna check that band out, they won a grammy!” Just doesn’t happen.

  • Kyle

Eh, no big deal. Trent Reznor really sucks anyway. So unbelievably overrated.

  • Outshined

Fuck the grammies. Oceania deserves best album of the year.

  • B

The nomination period for the Grammys was 10/1/2011-09/30/2012. King Animal was released after. Maybe next year

  • king animal tour sponsored by bud light

“they are elected and they will speak. They are choooseenn”

  • http://nemsworld.com Christine

    Too bad Jane’s didn’t get a nod.

Go Trent Go! Win the damn thing, then tell them to shove it.

  • lilrockable

And exactly why do the Grammys matter? the Grammys are nothing but a popularity contest. They act as if they know and respect so many “true musicians” yet they give awards to hacks like Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, and Kid Rock. They are about as credible as rolling stone magazine. If I’m not mistaken they did not even put Layne Staley (in 2002) in that bullshit montage of dead musicians they do every year. Fuck the Grammys

  • Imisstheninetys

I recall what Homer Simpson did with his Grammy. As upsetting as it is I try not put any faith in what the music industry is trying to do in shaping the minds of the weak into thinking they must listen to rap/rnb/dance/urban rubbish. 4 categories for essentially the same music. Idiocracy is coming true….

  • Doug

I can’t believe the idiocy of most of the comments on this site

  • NIN_FAN

I seem to remember Trent saying he doesn’t even know what he did with he two Grammy Awards – I doubt he even cares that he is nominated

  • Mills

Pearl Jam won a grammy. So did SG.

  • Clioteorica

To the die hard NIN fans, I recomend you hear “A thousand details” on the GWTDT soundtrack, sure you will change your mind about the new TR’s stuff.
