RUMOR: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TO RECONVENE THIS SUMMER?

Published On February 5, 2013 | By Brett Buchanan | Headline, Rage Against the Machine

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler told Metal Hammer in a new interview that even though Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk drums on the new Black Sabbath album 13, he may not tour with the band this summer. Butler said, “We’re not sure yet. We don’t know because I think Brad’s got commitments with Rage Against the Machine.”

Rage Against The Machine have not played live in nearly two years. It is not known if Butler is referring to Rage Against The Machine planning a tour or a new studio album.

  1. Superunknown says:

They need to make an album. It is the perfect time to make one and I don’t see why they haven’t put one out yet. There is so much to talk about. Wallstreet, the wars, federal reserve, patriot act, etc…

  2. Tommy says:

    Or the Sound City commitments?

  3. Shadows Collide with People says:

Please god I hope this rumor is true. We need their music now more then ever.

  4. Pete says:

Rage’s music is more relevant now than when it came out.

  5. RickDeckard says:

@Superunknown, I feel like you think they’re political commentators of some sort. They’re songs are mostly about social issues, not economical/political ones (however, I do understand their convergence).

  6. Cobainsweater says:

It’s incredible how when Rage were active and making music, people called them one-trick political whiners and one-dimensional. Now all you hear is how badly they’re needed and how much sense a new RATM album would make in these times.

As if the band really were ahead of their time all the while…

  7. cosmicatomic says:

There’s absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t make a new album. Just like there was no reason Soundgarden shouldn’t have reunited & made a new album. Both bands are all perfectly healthy and capable and they don’t hate each other, they just got burnt out in their primes.

I don’t mind Morello’s side projects but long term it’s going to get kind of dull. There’s no reason not to spice it up with at least ONE Rage album!

  8. Calvin McLain says:

I remember what De La Rocha said if Obama didn’t pull us outta Iraq we should burn Chicago to the fucking ground! I’d so love a new album or tour anything from these guys really…

  9. scott says:

There is no point in being in a band if you aren’t creating new music. (Unless your in it only for the money from the live shows.) So I would hope they are working on new music.

  10. drew says:

ah, burning chicago to the ground would be very hypocritical…..

why should the folks of that town, or any. become victims of someone’s unthoughtful behavior.

he should burn himself; a far more heroic and dignified statement.

  11. chris says:

RATM guitarist Tom Morello is on tour with Bruce Springsteen over the summer so Bruce’s guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt can film his series lillihammer – so if RATM were to reform it would be in the fall

  12. hey says:

Who’d have thought a few months ago that major RATM rumors would be coming from Geezer Butler?

  13. GwynnKatie says:

Please God I hope this rumor is true.
We need their music now more than ever.
I believe ^ this needed to be said again.
    Peace

  14. Calvin McLain says:

Good points Cobainsweater, I remember all the trash talk back in the 90′s and never could understand it.

  15. Deviate says:

Given what’s been happening in recent times, and looking back on RATM lyrically, I agree with a lot of it as it applies to today’s gov’t bullshit. Back then it didn’t really make sense because I never really paid much attention to it. EXCEPT for the fact that De La Rocha supported a vicious senseless murderer.

  16. Deviate says:

Oh, and that Tom Morello is a hypocrite now too.

  17. Tina says:

Please Please be true? IMO~ the reason they don’t play has to have something to do with Zach~ everyone else seems like they would be up for it….Morello did state recently that he wished they would have been able to come up with some dates since the 20th anniv of their debut release~ was just a couple months ago….I do wanna see Rage before I die…..Love Love Love this band?

  18. Raj says:

I think they will, unless Zach does another One Day as Lion album but I’m sure the other guy is busy with his other band Mars Volta.

I think Brad and Tim would drop what they were doing to go back to RATM and I’m sure the Sabbath guys could find a fill in quickly, heck why not use Jason Bonham if Zeppelin ain’t reuniting.
