PROMOTER TRASHES NINE INCH NAILS FOR TURNING DOWN SOUNDWAVE TOUR, REZNOR RESPONDS

Published On August 24, 2013 | By Brett Buchanan | Featured, Nine Inch Nails

Soundwave Festival promoter AJ Maddah went after Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails for turning down a spot performing on the 2014 Soundwave Festival Tour in Australia. The festival is being headlined by Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice In Chains. Maddah tweeted, “Sadly Trent wants to be mainstream now and reach Justin Timberlake’s audience :(

He added, “I’m no longer interested in working with them. I happen to like their existing fanbase.” Maddah also responded to a fan asking where NIN was by saying, “Up their own arse sadly.” He also said Trent had told his agent that he wanted to find a more “sophisticated fanbase.” He also claimed that Trent no longer wants “goths & people in black.”

Trent Reznor responded on Twitter, “Australia: we love you and we’re coming. Didn’t feel Soundwave was the right vibe for us or our fans – working on a better scenario.”

    What a pretentious loser.

  • Shadow on the Sun

And we’re covering douchebag Trent on this site all the time because???

  • A.D.

Green Day, AIC and STP aren’t on the same level as NIN. They’re essentially nostalgia acts performing without the nostalgic lineup’s, while NIN is promoting new music and the future. Why SHOULD TR want to associate himself with that scene? NIN doesn’t need those other acts/promoter but they could obviously benefit by NIN inclusion. That festival would actually become instantly relevant… Sorry but aside from a handful of people on this site (and a small sampling at that, still…) – no one is checking for that new AIC or “STP featuring Chester…”. Shit is CORNY and embarrassing to people like myself who once prided themselves on relating to these artists… Even if it’s far from his best work at least TR is still evolving with his sound and attempting to move forward instead of merely milking the teet of past glories.

…How is Trent the douchebag in this? Based on things that a promoter claims he said after NIN declined the promoter’s bill? It just doesn’t sound like the kind of thing Trent would say.. especially since he is wearing black himself when they have been playing so far this year. I would argue that Trent took the high road in his response… he easily could have told the guy to fuck off but instead said ‘Hey guys, we’re still planning on coming down there, but we’re going to do our own thing instead’. I don’t know. I’m a big NIN fan, so maybe that has something to do with it, but it just seems a bit far-fetched to me. Also, why is this promoter all bent out of shape? His line-up is still great.

I should add that by “great” I meant that large names that would pull a big crowd… Personally, I counted 4 bands I’d care to see, and none before the 4th line on the poster.

    • A.D.

He’s bent out of shape because his festival is 10 times more relevant, interesting and profitable with NIN’s inclusion…

  • A.D.

Because the meat & potatoes act’s this site covers, like “Nirvana”, AIC, STP with Chester, and William Corgan, leave much to be desired in a contemporary sense

    • Bradford

I will agree with you on all counts aside from William Corgan (I am still getting used to that, as a HUGE SP fan I just… I don’t know…) . I would argue that this quote from your post could apply to him as well:
“Even if it’s far from his best work at least TR is still evolving with his sound and attempting to move forward instead of merely milking the teet of past glories.

  • Search and destroy

All of those bands are mainstream..hell they’ve been mainstream for 20 years. Shit move by the promoter though..

AIC just put out a new album in May – not sure why you think they are milking the teet of past glories.

Because in comparison to the fan base AIC once had, no one listens to them anymore. VERY few people are getting hype to go out & see AIC Live because of their latest album. Seriously. IF you even go see them you go to hear DIRT and the classics which the current band didn’t even write…and I’ve seen them live with DuVall and it was great… I was a diehard at one time, zero interest in the last album. Haven’t even heard it

    @A.D.
Shows how much you know about alice in chains. Jerry Cantrell wrote ALOT of AIC’s songs and hits. Layne wrote a good few but check your info dingbat
