Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford discussed the band becoming ‘overstimulated’ with the drug scene, and how a ‘little fight’ led to Joe Perry exiting the band in the 1979, though Steven Tyler said in his book that he fired Perry.

“In that period we had been overworked and overstimulated with the whole drug scene and stuff,” Whitford said in a new WTOP interview. “We were a little shattered there and it was just a little fight that was silly. Joe was like, ‘I gotta get out of here.’ To him, it seemed like things were going downhill. … Joe was working on the Joe Perry Project, which I worked with him on that. … We got back together in ’83 or ’84, the wounds were healed and we said, ‘Let’s just try this again.’ And it worked!”
