It’s always rad to hear a unique band. Thankfully, all of the bands that we are lucky enough to review here are all unique. With the Orlando, FL based band, Blueanimal, it’s turned up a notch.

Blueanimal released their newest record, Figment That Was Me on June 4th. The record starts out with a whisper that turns into a huge production. The work here to go from such a small sound to something so captivating is really a kudos to the band showcasing what they can do here.

As we move forward to Only A Man, I have this memory of bands like Three Days Grace as the track opens up. This has a very post-grunge sound. There’s a lot of cool vocal harmonies here as well. My favorite part in this track is the guitar work.

Anyone But Me comes in at number three for the track listing. It opens up with a guitar riff that Kurt Cobain would find pretty familiar as it really reminds me of Heart Shaped Box, which is good! I think more bands should show inspiration. This is a great track too.

This Side Of Me and Rock Bottom take up the top five as far as tracklisting goes. They slow down the vibe a bit to bring you back into paying attention to the lyrical content. I believe I reviewed Rock Bottom previously, and it still slaps. Rock Bottom sounds a lot like Pearl Jam’s Corduroy as far as the main guitar goes. The other guitar work sounds really Alice In Chains inspired. Alice, is of course, one of my favorite bands so I really dig this.

The next three songs on this killer record are What Does It All Mean, Because Of You, and Searching. These three I’m grouping together because they put the brakes on even more and slow us down even harder. I think the transitioning work that the band has done from track one down to here is great. It’s always awesome to see a band keep cohesion and Blueanimal have done just that.

The final track is Better Than This. This track is cool because it’s a live acoustic track. With a track like this put on the album, it reminds me of a 90’s record where there would be B-sides and little gems hidden in the album. This is actually my favorite track. It’s really raw and sounds great as do all the tracks here. Make sure to check out Blueanimal and this record.
