This week is National Suicide Prevention Week. If you are dealing with mental health issues, you can call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, or enter their live chat.

Late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington’s 15-year old son Draven was recently interviewed on KESQ to discuss why he is helping raise awareness for suicide prevention. Draven released a PSA a few days ago.

Draven said about his father Chester (transcribed by Alternative Nation), “I mean, from my perspective, he was just my Dad. So he was silly at times, just fun, spent time with us when he could.”

He was then asked why he joined suicide prevention campaign and did a PSA.

“Because no one else would really put their voice out there. I definitely think it’s important to bring awareness and help others.”

He was then asked if he had a message for people out there feeling helpless and alone.

“That if they don’t know it already, there’s a lot of people who really care about them. They can honestly reach out to anyone, and it will really change the way they’re thinking about everything.”

“I found out that a lot of people actually deal with something similar to this with suicide, and they wouldn’t speak up about it. I didn’t know until it happened to me, and I couldn’t be there for them, because they wouldn’t let anyone know.”

Late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington’s 15-year old son Draven released a video for National Suicide Prevention Week.

“Hi I’m Draven Bennington and I’m here on National Suicide Prevention Week, and I want to make a commitment that I will talk to someone before I hurt myself when I am feeling depressed and sad, or going through a hard week, month, or year, and I want to challenge you to do the same, to help yourself, and not hurt yourself.”
