Chris Cornell was discussing upcoming Soundgarden concerts just hours before committing suicide at his hotel room in Detroit.

Just before Soundgarden were about to start an encore at their show at the Fox Theatre, Cornell praised fans.

“Detroit, Jesus! You guys fucking show up! Thank you!”

“I feel a little bit sorry for the next fucking place we play. It’s okay, it’s alright, we’re not going to go in there with the same expectations anyways.”

They were set to play Friday in Columbus, Ohio at Rock on the Range, and Chris joked he’ll have to tell fans there, “You should have been at that Detroit show. That crowd was something.”

Rock on the Range released the following, “As we mourn Chris Cornell’s sudden passing, additional details surrounding Rock on the Range performances will be shared when they become available. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the music community during this difficult time and we will have more to share in the near future.”

They also said, “We are devastated to hear about the sudden passing of Chris Cornell last night. He was a true hero to music. The voice of a generation. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the entire music community. The voice of an angel. Now watching down on us as we celebrate and honor him all weekend long.”
