Chris Cornell’s Widow Clarifies ‘Untrue’ Media Report

Chris Cornell’s widow Vicky Cornell has disputed media reports that Chris’ final words to her were ‘I’m very tired.’ Read her two new tweets below.

  • Sad and Confused

Um…Ok…so what were his last words then?

    • Allison Auld

Three possibilities I can think of:
      1. This is bs and that’s exactly what they were.
      2. It was some big proclamation of love and how she “saved” him.
      3. He came right out and stated his intentions, like an ‘I’m sorry. I can’t do this anymore’ type of thing. The latest TMZ report makes me think it was something like that.
She probably wants everyone to imagine it’s number two when it is more likely something like number three.

      • TheBigPicture

        4. She has nothing better to do than be a rude, vindictive person. Eddie Vedder covers a song (presumably in tribute to Chris) by Fugazi with the line “I’m so tired”. It gets reported in the media that it’s reflective of “Chris’s last words”, and she needs to make freaking point about it on twitter?? Poor, poor Chris.

        • Allison Auld

Oh, is that the story? Because the day after his death RS had a story from a police report that he had said to her, “I’m just tired.” She doesn’t dispute that report until 10 days later? But if it had to do with Eddie Vedder’s concert, that makes perfect sense why she said that now. Wow. Thanks for clarifying.

          • TheBigPicture

Just my guess, but her and her mother in law have some vendetta against Eddie and his wife. Strange timing if it’s not in response to his show.

I read she didn’t let his band members come to their wedding. It’s hard for the guy to reconcile that he had happy years with someone who isolated him and controlled his business and wonder if he didn’t have the money coming in or the fame if that love would still exist. Ozzy had to choose his business and kids over making his own choices.

      • Raj

Sounds like Courtney Love 2.0 as soon she came in to Kurt’s life his friends fell to the wayside. I read she got in Kurt’s head to go and renegotiate Nirvana’s royalties so Kurt would get an 80% cut instead of a 3 ways split.

        • prettyvacant

Exactly. Look what that 2 year relationship cost him. She claims she “lost” 27 million of his money. Axl Rose has his own Vicky and MIL scenario with a family took over control of his life when he was down and wouldn’t hand the reigns back without threatening to leave his life. It’s been said that they own his fan club which is $85 a year and they get all the money. Some presales require membership. The only way I’ll believe they are his true extended family is if they EVER lead separate lives and stay connected. Beyonce fired her dad and realized later he was misusing funds. Today they can have the appropriate family relationship uncompromised.

I remember reading in Greg Prato’s “Grunge is Dead” that Chris was also
under a huge influence of Susan Silver when she was his wife and the manager of Soundgarden.

Art Chantry: “[Susan] ran that band with an iron fist. She was “the fifth Soundgarden member,” and was married to Chris Cornell — who was a
doormat, oh my God. I remember when I was working on the Louder Than Love record cover, Chris wouldn’t talk to the band. He talked to Susan, who in turn talked to the band. And when they would talk to Chris, they would talk to him directly, but he wouldn’t respond — he’d respond to Susan, and Susan would talk to the band. And that is the way communication worked.“

This might be just Art’s impression but his comment immediately crossed my mind when people started to discuss the relationship between Chris and Vicky and her possible dominance in that relationship. Not that it means anything, but it’s still interesting, I guess.

          • Trovoid

I thought that was very interesting when I read “Grunge is Dead.” I knew she was a pretty strong-minded person but I didn’t know it went that far. Poor introverted, sensitive intuitive types.. They tend to gravitate towards certain types.. He had two crazy girlfriends when he was younger (one stabbed him and the other threatened to kill herself and her own mother). Then he had to deal with Susan and Vicky and the problems that came along with those marriages.

          • halcyon

Yes, this certainly seems to be the case. A friend of mine who also fits this characteristic has a very dominant girlfriend who is extremely overbearing and bossy, has no qualms about shouting at him or harshly criticizing him in public or using physical violence against him and tends to isolate him from his friends. The strange thing is that he seems to genuinely love her even though she really comes across as an awful person. I don’t even think he sees himself as submissive in that relationship, he probably thinks that it’s imperative for him to tolerate her awful behavior and suppress his own needs without expecting any reciprocity. I guess that he must find it satisfying in a way, probably as an expression of his extreme self-control and selflessness. Or that’s at least how he probably rationalizes it. And some people probably appreciate if their partner is interested in them even to such a pathological extent that he or she acts tyrannically towards them which might have something to do with their low self-esteem.

          • Trovoid

Couldn’t have said it better myself

There is a LOT more she needs to clarify.

Very true… but as we Fans, we should have that right and the truths of our closure from mourning of his loss… His children are young, but when they get as adults, there gonna want to know THE truth. This suicide, homicide, illuiminody, or whatever the Real truths of his death should be encountered by a professional psychic!! Whole entire Details of what, why, and How it truly happened.

  • Gabi Sermoneta

I am very puzzled : She has nothing better to do than clarify this? She lost the man of her life the father of her children and she just can’t stop with all the media buzz and posting on social media? It looks to me that She just can’t let go of her “role” of rescuer, just to get the credit for the fact that Chris was still around. The truth is : he is not any longer. The rescuer role is part of dysfunctional relationships . You cannot save a person , you help, you support, but not save.

    • prettyvacant

So right. If you want to help someone get them a life coach or a good self help book just don’t create an unhealthy dependency. A lot of senior couples worry about what becomes of their mate if they should die so they teach them to do things for themselves.

    • Sad and Confused

Right. You can facilitate someone’s recovery. The rest is up to them.

  • Gabi Sermoneta

Besides, she is the one who started all this fuzz around his last words. How cannot you keep that private? Rip Chris

    • Allison Auld

The original reporting of his last words (saying “I’m just tired” over and over and hanging up on her) came from a police report obtained the day after his death. That particular information could have only come from her. She is changing her story.

  • prettyvacant

Seal was clear that his same bodyguard Martin was sleeping with his wife Heidi Klum at the time of employment for her. She claimed to only date him after the divorce and he moved in. She allegedly bought his mother a house and gave him hush money when they parted. Dating a client is against the ethics of bodyguards.

    • TheBigPicture

Interesting the only circumstantial evidence that has been reported are from the mouths of these 2, his wife and bodyguard. They could have concocted any story together and “got rid of him”. So so freaking sad. VC: “Mention you gave him 2 pills” BG”Ok”. VC “Say you were in there to help with his computer”-BG “Ok, but why would he need help with his computer if he was going to off himself anyway?”…VC “nevermind-no one will ask.”…and so on and so on. Maybe they will run off with the insurance money. MY guess is it will be similar to KC-VERY high level of heroin. BG give it to him (not fixing his computer) He’s knocked out cold-basically as soon as he hangs up with VC-hence he was “getting tired”. The the BG strings him up. Ugh-so awful. He “SAYS” he knocked 2 doors down-probably did-but he can say he found him any way then right-if the doors already knocked down. Man, I sure hope someone is actually investigating. We went through this crap with Kurt already.

  • Gabi Sermoneta

It’s really difficult to believe Chris decided to end his life. I just read (Spin/ Rolling Stone) how his friends saw him lately. He had , as it is said, his “s” together.. I don’ t understand

  • Allison Auld

“contrary to media reports” – based on a police report. Who could have given the police information about the last phone call except her or Chris? Why does the story keep changing? TMZ has another, seemingly more believable account. Let the tox screen come out and if the official ruling is suicide, then that’s what it is. All the tweeting and open letters and protesting isn’t going to change it. Terrible things happen sometimes. This was a terrible thing. I hope if the results are not as she believes, that acceptance will come to her in time, for her and especially for their children.

    • Gabi Sermoneta

I guess the toxicology tests can prove it was suicide. The thing I do not get around is : He did not look as if he was suicidal in any of his latest interviews and public appearances. And people who met him saw a man who was as happy and relaxed a man can be. Something happened.

    • Sad and Confused

All those reports will do is prove what was in his system when he died. They won’t prove how it got there.

      • Allison Auld

I think there isn’t any question that it was suicide. If they find Ativan only, I think that will prove to his wife (rightly or wrongly), that it was accidental suicide. If they find nothing, then it was intentional. If they find Ativan and other substances (the most likely scenario), I guess that would also be accidental, but still suicide.

        • Sad and Confused

You may want to think again.

      • Truth

Exactly. Someone could have slipped it to him or forced it.

        • Sad and Confused

          Indeed 🙁

      • TheBigPicture

Well, if it’s an extremely high amount of heroin, I guess we know he couldn’t have hung himself on his own, right?

        • Sad and Confused

If so, it would be similar to what happened to Kurt.

          • TheBigPicture

I can’t help wondering if it’s not a similar story. I would think we would have learned from past mistakes. The release to the media of it being a suicide, or even possible suicide goes against all suggestions from suicide prevention data. Mostly in reference to copycats. That data is directly from Kurt’s case.

  • Truth

The truth will prevail and Vicky, Martin and Toni will all get what they deserve for doing this. Ativan could not do this to a man who has already been on this medication. It would have made him suicidal when he first went on it not later down the road.
