Chris Cornell’s Widow Shares Emotional Unseen Family Photos To Honor His Mother-In-Law

Chris Cornell’s widow Vicky wished her mother and Chris’ mother-in-law Toni Karayiannis a happy birthday on Twitter, and she shared very personal and previously unseen photos of Karayiannis with her family, including Chris. Vicky wrote, “Happy B-Day to my beautiful mom. So blessed, so grateful TO you and FOR you. Thank you for your unconditional love!”

Karayiannis, who goes back the ‘Yia Yia’ nickname as well, was very active on Twitter and Instagram following Cornell’s death. She posted tributes, communicated with fans, and criticized Eddie Vedder, Peter Cornell, and others. Karayiannis has been silent on Instagram since early October.

One of her last posts detailed the investigation into Chris Cornell’s death. Vicky Cornell recently traveled to Detroit to acquire evidence from the medical examiner’s office.

“I hear you! Forgive me for losing my trust in people these days! I’m going to make sure you get all the answers you deserve from someone who can do much better in writing! For now I can tell you that while we look into the matter of that horrible night, we are being advised to wait and not speak until it all comes together!

It makes sense! I for one agree with you only because you need to know that lots of things are happening behind the scenes, and yes we owe you at least that much! To keep you informed we are on it 24/7 and we are looking for answers, and we’re looking for answers as some, those with ‘bad’ intentions as I call them, or trolls, do say something I completely agree [with]! We all do!

It was in and out of investigation and then they gave it a name! We have great reasons to believe otherwise and his wife [will] fight for it! Our silence doesn’t help you and I do apologize for that! The fans should know that a lot is being done but nothing until all of this comes together! And I say lots of things, you see now, why I’m afraid to talk! Others take it I say addiction, you say why I mention abuse! Others say depression!”

I was looking at the music I’d been listening to lately. I haven’t been listening to Chris Cornell. I think it’s too sad to think about him….the sadness is not going away. This family have tampered with his legacy and memory to a terrible degree. Actually, I never would have though it possible that a family could take over the very memory of a person as this group has done. Why does this music site insist on giving them center stage….they’re so crass.

  • Olga Stewart

The two Tonis wearing matching outfits?

I found that to be a bit creepy.

    • Cathy

and why did they name the girl after the MIL?

      • Olga Stewart

And Chris Jr’s middle name is the same as the uncle (Nicholas)

      • makingconnections

        I think it’s a Greek thing.

  • ErikPaul

  • ErikPaul

    • Olga Stewart

      Which one?

There is mother-in-law Toni and granddaughter Toni.

      • Diane Neame

I’d say the mother in law as Vicky is talking about her and saying she is a great mum etc

        • makingconnections

I think they are capable of such manipulation. It’s a little “over the top” for a girl….maybe a few exclamations, but all of that? I don’t think so.

    • Denise Kelly

Wasn’t Chris”s birthday in July,? Yeah this is pathetic. They are so fucking pathetic it’s sicking! I so agree who TF is Toni.Iknow who what she is and I’ll be kind A Pathetic nobody seeking fame from A amazing badass singer song writer and human beings death.. karma isn’t always instant but it’s a bitch!!

  • Renée Lynn

Who cares about this crazy granny?

    • Olga Stewart

      No one does.

      Save for this site.

  • makingconnections

Maybe this music site will soon get the message that no one cares about the Karayannis family and their attempts to be celebrities. Give us a break.

    • Olga Stewart

From your lips to Brett’s ears?

      Yeah, that isn’t happening.

    • Diane Neame

They should team up with the kadashians

      • makingconnections

Why do such ordinary or should I say unusual people get so high on themselves?

  • Olga Stewart

She’s been silent on IG since the start of last month?

Dare we hope that she forever stays silent on there?

  • GS Page

If you know the history of the widow and the mother in law, then your probably asking yourself, what kind of writer would publish such crap.? This is sickening. Bret Kariyanis Buchanan you are a joke.

  • Diane Neame

These photos aren’t intimate as far as Chris and Vicky go, it’s all about her halfwitted mother. What I find strange is Chesters wife posted a genuine 40sec ph vid from hubby, obviously while he was on tour and it was fucken beautiful, then you get this mad bitch posting something up and I’m thinking finally she is showing something loving that Chris had done for her and it was bs stuff, wishing the mad mother happy birthday. Fuck it’s not a contest. Have a look at how fast Chris aged after he married Vicky

    • Cristiann

“Have a look at how fast Chris aged after he married Vicky.”

I don’t see that at all to be honest. Chris in his 40s looked way better than most men do in their 20s imo. I always thought Chris was a very attractive man. It’s only in the last year or two where I think he really started to age more rapidly.

      • Cathy

He gradually went down hill after he married her, especially around the time of Scream

        • Cristiann

Well, that’s your opinion. I know you blame her entirely for his downfall but I don’t. Not right now at least. We can argue about this all night and it will be pointless because neither of us know what was really going on in Chris’ personal life. It really isn’t any of our business anyway.

And btw I wasn’t talking about his marriage, I was talking about the way he looked in his 40s. Someone commented that he aged rapidly as soon as he met her and I strongly disagree with that. I think it’s unfair to expect celebrities to not age at all. And honestly, even in the hardest times of his life, Chris looked better than the average 40 something white guy.

I’m finding the music and non-stop photos of his life with the K. family unpleasant at this point and love to see the music and photos of the Seattle era. The woman he married so quickly after rehab (that’s not an advised action when you’ve just gotten your life back–you’re vulnerable) and her family completely took him over and he recreated himself. Granted, he allowed it; however think of their actions since his death. They must be very aggressive people to live with. I think he looked haunted for quite some time, as though he was dancing as fast as he could to please the family he married into.

          • Cristiann

I’m sorry but … I’m just not ready to blame anyone or anything for what happened to him. If I overthink and over analyze everything these people do, I’m going to go insane. I’d rather just try to focus on the good stuff (Chris’ music, his kindness and his sense of humor) and on the things that can actually help me (learning and talking about mental health in general).

Unless you don’t actually like the music Chris released during the last 14 years, I can’t understand why it would be unpleasant for you to hear those songs. Yes, the 90s Seattle era was amazing, but Chris continued to make great music even after that time was over. Just because we don’t like Vicky or her family, it doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the things Chris did in the time that he was with her. He went through plenty of hardships during his first marriage as well, but that doesn’t stop us from listening to music from back then, does it? In the last 15 years Chris released wonderful solo material, gave great contributions to movie/tv soundtracks, did 3 awesome albums with Audioslave and had an amazing reunion with Soundgarden. I love watching and hearing live performances from all of his musical eras. And as far as interviews go (compared to how shy he was in the 80s and 90s), he’s way more talkative in the ones done from the 00s.

I know the K family is deeply problematic, but they aren’t going to stop me from enjoying everything that Chris gave us. And honestly, I don’t think you should either. Doing that would be a major disservice to Chris and all his hard work imo.

          • makingconnections

Yes, you make sense. It’s just the process I’m going through and I’m emotional when it comes to injustice. I liked “Higher State” very much, but at this time it just reminds me of a person struggling.

          • Cristiann

Some of Chris’ songs (Wave Goodbye, When I’m Down, Times of Trouble, Say Hello 2 Heaven, etcs) are very difficult for me to listen to now, so I kinda understand where you’re coming from. When you’re ready, though, I hope you’re able to go back and listen to certain songs of his again someday. They truly are beautiful.

          • Cristiann

I agree that he looked really haunted this year. It’s like seeing a ghost to be honest. I think Chris’ appearance seemed to change around the time Higher Truth was released. He’d wear sunglasses a lot (even in doors), he was getting thinner, seemed less energetic and more withdrawn again like he was during Euphoria Morning.

But that wasn’t the point of my original comment here, all I was saying was that I always thought he an attractive and talented guy. I don’t think VK “ruined” him (not in terms of his talent or appearance), but hey … that’s just my opinion. We don’t have to agree on this.

          • makingconnections

No, I didn’t mean to agree or disagree with you–just sharing some thoughts after following this episode for so long. I think the K family is very demanding and it’s awful to think of a wife hearing the team working on her husband, trying to save him, and coming out of the ordeal with not any sort of visible humility and working so hard to control the narrative. It’s an awful thing to witness. Regarding her ruining him…no, I think it takes two to mess up a marriage. I find it personally really challenging – we’re hard on each other very often in most marriages; however, they really did take ownership of him and he allowed it. The episodes where Vicky wanted to be in every photograph with Chris and got ticked off if they wanted to take shots of Chris alone is telling.

          • Cristiann

Vicky is definitely a strange woman and her mother seems even worse. There’s nothing positive we can say about them at this point. I know it’s probably never gonna happen but I really wish they would just disappear from social media and the public eye.

          • makingconnections

She was on the phone the whole time the team was trying to save him. Wouldn’t that be traumatic…wouldn’t it be humbling?

          • Cristiann

Yes, I imagine that it would be very traumatic. And I’ll admit VK’s behavior and comments these past 5 months have been upsetting to me at times. I don’t understand this woman or her mother, but at the same time … I realize that I don’t have to because I don’t know them and I don’t want to. I am getting pretty sick of them and their apparent need for attention, but I could easily ignore them if I really wanted to. At the end of the day, hating her isn’t going to make me feel better. It won’t bring Chris back, so what’s the point?

          • makingconnections

I don’t hate them. Sometimes I think it’s barely personal, the resentment I feel towards them. It reminds me of the unfairness of how so many people treat each other because they can’t put themselves in another’s shoes.

  • Cristiann

Honestly, who the hell cares about Yia Yia’s birthday?

I know we’re in the age of sharing selfies and other personal stuff online, but I’ll never understand this family’s need to over share things with us. All families are weird (in one way or another) but why would you want to fight with people (like the grandma did with Peter C, Eddie V, etcs) in such public way?? Why wouldn’t you feel that it’s better to either 1) keep this stuff private within the family or 2) not say anything at all? I think it’s distasteful to air out your ‘dirty laundry’ for everyone to see. It’s embarrassing and it’s not good for any of the kids imo.

  • Cathy

Them K women sure are NOT easy on the eyes

    • makingconnections

      Don’t tell them that!

      • Cathy

They probably are glued to AN so they already know

        • makingconnections

Why do they keep this up? The commenters here aren’t exactly charmed by them. They are self-obsessed! Do they not ever consider that it makes us wonder what Chris lived with?

  • makingconnections

Another question: Why do so many men like mean women?
