Recently, Dave Grohl revealed even more about the Foo Fighters’ upcoming album. While things are still remaining vague, there are some surprises below:

Grohl claims the song ideas are ready, but the recording is not yet finished. “We’ve gotten back into it in the last couple of weeks,” he said. “Over the past year when I haven’t been doing any Foo Fighters stuff, I’ve been loading up my cassette recorder at home with song ideas. Then I hit rewind, listened back and thought, Oh, my God, I have a record! Wow, that was easy. And it’s just a matter of getting in the room and banging it out.”

Grohl also revealed the recording process so far has been present at Sound City studios. “We run our own little hit factory at 606. We’ve done a couple other projects since Sound City. We’re recording Foo Fighters stuff as we speak.”

The Foo Fighters frontman believes they are doing something completely original regarding the upcoming album. “I have this idea that I don’t think anyone’s done before, and we’re going to try it. We don’t really want to give away our little secret yet, but it’s happening. And we’re pretty psyched about it. It’s much more of an involved process than just going in to make a record down the street, because we’ve done that before. And everybody does that. So at this point, maybe let’s challenge ourselves to do something that’s more than just sitting down and making a record so you can go out and sell a bunch of T-shirts.”

“I’ll just say it’s pretty clear what we have, and it’s exciting. We’ll have a Foo Fighters record and it’s going to be fucking great!”

they are recording it in space while wearing sombreros

    • GwynnKatie

That’s the second time you posted that and both times I’ve laughed… hopefully that will be the first video off the new record — all in classic Foo Fashion.

Sorry, but Foo Fighters are one of the most overated bands ever. I find them utterly bland and totally boring. Dave Grohl is an amazing drummer….and should stay behind the kit.

    • Boom

Thank you. Best comment ever. True say boom

  • JG566

They are all going to play each others instruments!! And cut it live in one take like a set list!

    • gerald

looks like someone is having male-on-male fantasies

      • JG566

Who said I was a male?

        • john

The band is all male, dummy

            Fuck off, mate

            someone’s angry :0

A lot of people have suggested they are going to record the album in one take but for some reason I’m pretty sure that’s been done before.

@Clem Halibut I don’t think they are overrated, I do find a lot of their songs are very radio friendly and it makes them a lot more mainstream whereas Nirvana was the complete opposite which wasn’t very radio friendly or mainstream. I thought their first couple of albums were the best.

  • GwynnKatie

    I love his enthusiasm.
I love that he uses a cassette recorder.

Like a commenter (Hannah?) said before:
    can do
    he wants.

Can’t wait to see what the have up their sleeves…

Every time a band says they’re on the verge of something spendilferously fantabulously original I automatically lower my expectations. Everything has been done, and what’s been done has been done over and under the sun, again and again, times a hundred and one. The only thing that ever really changes is the method of creation/delivery of creation.

But we’ll see. I’m sure plenty of people told the Wright bros. they couldn’t fly like birds…

  • GwynnKatie

If those folks had ever stood at the top of the dunes at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head NC on a ferocious windy day they would have thought different… Anyway Wasting Light was recorded on analog and I really liked it, the record did very well. Dave seems very confident and he’s driven — so that’s a great combination, rather like the Wright Brothers.

Nirvana wasn’t radio friendly??? I think you better go back and take another listen to Nevermind, my friend.

Regarding the Foo being overrated… that’s ridiculous. They’ve earned every bit of success they’ve gotten. If they weren’t on the radio then some people would claim that they can’t write catchy melodies. Sometimes, you just can’t win with some people.

Where I live it seems they only play Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Heart Shaped Box and All Apologies over and over again. It’s only been in the past 5-10 years that they play Breed, and Lithium with more frequency. I find a lot of rock stations don’t play songs like Rape Me. However, alternative stations are more likely to play In Bloom, Rape Me. Nevermind maybe radio friendy but overall the Nirvana sound isn’t radio friendly or mainstream.

“The Foo Fighters frontman believes they are doing something completely original regarding the upcoming album”

I have alot of respect for Grohl and the Foos, but I don’t believe this statement one fucking bit.

  • http://nemsworld.com Christine

I don’t know if there is anything left that is original to do, but I sure hope Dave finds it if there is…..

…. I love that Dave said during Sound City (to Paul McCartney) “I wish it were always this easy.”

And Paul’s response was “It is.”

Maybe that blew Dave’s imagination wide open. I hope so. Just keep the tape rolling and record every noise you make like the Beatles did, something will be in there….

  • Clem Halibut

The pre-Foo Fighters demos were actually really good – As was the first album.
But eyond that….it’s all been rather pedestrian.

Dave is one hell of a musician, but I’d much rather see him behind a drum kit than out front with the Foo Fighters.

His work on Songs for the Deaf is a high water mark.

They have done it all what is left the man’s a genius. The new album will be done with them getting enemas. Great band that has surpassed every band since they started. Even all the talk of the grunge bands who have come back or were around sound amateurish compared to the wizard and his pro players.

Foo Fighters new album will be another Grammy masterpiece. Bow all.

    • Ed

      that’s kinda scatalogical, ain’t it?

Dave is an AWESOME frontman as well as a BADASS drummer ……I cant wait for the new Foo Fighters album….It just gets better & better….I think it is amazing what Dave & all the guys have done and continue to do….Their music sales should tell you what people really think about them….I hope they right a song about a girl…after all the Beatles did and many other bands….Come on roll down the lyrics for us ladies Love You! Denise

How about the lyrics to Jailhouse Rock for starters? :)

The Foo Fighters might try something like this : Original Lo-Fi audio punk / garage surfer rock from the 1960s and 1970s. I know that Dave Ghrol is using the reunion and reissue of Nirvanas In Utero as some inspiration for what the Foo Fighters might have recorded as their new album. Hopefully loud , aggressive lo-fi psychedelic punk, grunge and metal will totally dominate their new sound for 2014 :) goodluck

  • Ghost

Wasting Light was their best since Colour an The Shape. Dave’s got this creative resurgence going on. I bet the next album will be impressive

  • NirvanicaZ

I personally can’t wait for the album. I think Dave is a genius in all aspects and I respect the fuck out of him.
    Rock on, Foos!
