Dave Grohl discussed his late Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain in a new CBS Sunday Morning interview.

“I mean still to this day whenever I see a new artist that is young that blows up and becomes gigantic overnight, I kind of get worried for them. I don’t think anybody’s cut out for it.”

“I was the kid with long hair in my face behind drums that looked like washing machines. I could walk through the front door of a Nirvana gig and not get really noticed. So I didn’t have to suffer a lot of the pressures Kurt did as frontman.”

Pat Smear said, “He was smart enough to pull out the good, and say I’m going to do things like this, and look at the bad, and say I’m not going to do this kind of stuff.”

Cobain was found dead of a gunshot wound in his Seattle home in April 1994. At the time, Nirvana was one of the biggest bands in the world.

Grohl described himself, during the time after Cobain’s death, as “just lost. I went through a really dark period where I couldn’t really even listen to the radio because it broke my heart just to hear music.”
