Former Red Hot Chili Peppers and current Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro discussed his 1998 exit from RHCP on his Dark Matter podcast on Wednesday and Anthony Kiedis’ drug use. Alternative Nation transcribed some of his comments.

“Well, so what happened was. The actual truthful reasons are as follows, as to why I held a grudge for many years until I got some perspective. When we were doing One Hot Minute, I don’t think it’s any secret that Anthony [Keidis] experimented with drugs in the past. He put out a whole book about it so, I’m not outing him. But, during the writing and recording of One Hot Minute, he would go missing for weeks. He would just go check into a hotel. We wouldn’t know where he is.”

“I can completely relate too. I’ve done that many times myself. So, many times we didn’t know if we had a singer. We didn’t know if he was alive. We didn’t know what we we were doing. We were held up for months. Very inconvenienced, blah, blah, blah. That’s what happens when you’re in this business and work with people on drugs. I’ve been through it before. Hate to say it. But it’s kinda like ‘Rock Star Tax.’ You know what I mean? It’s like sometimes you gotta wait for the guy to get his shit together to do your thing.”
