Beloved entertainer and actor Gilbert Gottfried passed away on Tuesday. It is being reported that the Aladdin actor died due to complications from muscular dystrophy type II. In a statement that was released on the comedian’s Twitter account, Gottfried’s family would write: “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness.’
That statement would further read, ‘In addition to being one of the most iconic voices in comedy Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children.” Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor.”
Until 2022 Gilbert would host a podcast entitled Gilbert Godfried’s Amazing Podcast which featured celebrity interviews as well as a discussion of classic movies. The podcast started in 2014.
Gilbert would perform up to the point of his final days when one of his last performances was at the Randolph Diner in Randolph, New Jersey on March 31st. On social media via Instagram and Twitter, the final original photos Gottfried would post before his passing would be of him and fellow A-list comedian Chris Rock. Gilbert would in addition make a commentary on the controversial confrontation between King Richard actor Will Smith and Chris Rock which lead to Rock getting slapped by the Fresh Prince icon.
On the social media platform, Gilbert would write: “Which is the worst crime? Chris Rock being physically assaulted or Chris Rock telling a joke?”
In addition, fellow comedians are issuing their tributes to Gilbert as this story is still developing. Tom Green would state: “Sad to hear of the passing of the groundbreaking and legendary Gilbert Gottfried. Here was the last time I saw you in Miami. My condolences to the family and friends of this genius comic, artist, and provocateur. Comedy mourns tonight.”
