Leaving the Fox affiliate in Phoenix after 22 years to run for Governor of Arizona, Kari Lake has been an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump, gaining his endorsement after she also questioned the results of the 2020 Presidential Elections.
Well known for her “common sense conservatism,” Lake ran heavily on issues surrounding the southern border and its ongoing security, opposing abortion and critical race theory in Arizona schools while supporting school choice and wanting to focus on tackling the growing issue of homelessness.
Lake’s opponent, Katie Hobbs, a former social worker, and Secretary of State since 2018 – ran on her support for protecting abortion rights, while promising to collaborate with Mexican authorities and local law enforcement to strengthen the southern border’s security.
Hobbs refused to take part in the gubernatorial debates, a move that was heavily criticized by Lake at the time, prompting Hobbs to respond that she did not want to give a platform to conspiracy theories – taking a jab at Lake’s unproven belief that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.
