Kurt Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain reacted to the loss of her father’s artwork as his exhibit at the Aberdeen Armory was recently burned down in a horrific fire.

Cobain wrote on her Instagram story, “I am overjoyed to hear that no one was hurt in that fire at the Aberdeen Armory. Bummer about my dad’s artwork. But the sentiment and the intention of the art never really leaves us, even when it’s not physically around. Stay weird, stay kind.”

She also wrote, “I sat down with the universe and told her I wanted to grow. I told her to use me as a vessel, so she made me uncomfortable. She stripped me of everything I knew, made me learn how to be silent, how to let go, how to move on, how to stand my ground, how to be more understanding, how to fight, how to survive, how to be more assertive, more loving, less naive. She told me to take everything I have learned and share it with others. My body is young, my mind is old.”

The Seattle Times reports that a fire Saturday destroyed the historic Armory building in Aberdeen, housing the city’s museum, a senior center and the offices of a community social-services program. A Kurt Cobain exhibit was located inside of the building, as Aberdeen is his hometown.

The building, which is busy on weekdays, was unoccupied when the fire started. No one was hurt.

The building dates to 1922 and takes up most of a city block. It includes many exhibits on the city’s history, on the fishing and timber industries and life around the mouth of the Chehalis River.

“This is a devastating loss for the city,” said Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard.

He said “there’s massive destruction of a lot of historic items” from fire, smoke and water damage.

The building also held the offices of the Coastal Community Action Program, which administers social services in the area, and the Aberdeen Senior Center.

Hubbard said the alarm call came at 9:26 a.m. and the crews immediately saw a huge plume of smoke rising from the roof.

Firefighters had to pull out of the building when the ceiling started to collapse. Crews from surrounding areas arrived, for a total of 77 firefighters tackling the blaze. Hubbard said crews would work through the night to tamp down hot spots.

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic tweeted, “This is terrible. Hope people are safe.”

She expresses concern for what happened to her dad’s artwork but doesn’t seem to have any sort of emotion in regards to giving away his guitar to her ex-husband.

    Go figure.

    • Bruno Sílvio Martins

That’s just stupid what you said, Olga. You have absolutely no idea what’s her mind frame, her feelings, how she suffers, etc. etc.
You have no clue what happened in divorce settlement. All you know is what you read.
News flash: people, depressed people, often shrug their shoulders in order to be able to cope with whatever is painful at the time. They disconnect in order to keep on living a semi normal life, in a society now filled with bullys from the web.
For a feminist you sure like to attack women on her feelings a lot. You always claim to know exactly what they feel as if you intimately know them.
      You don’t.
Frances has been through a lot of shit. She doesn’t need mine, the world’s and especially she doesn’t need yours.
      Best regards.

That’s a whole lot of projection there and passive aggressive to boot. It wasn’t Olga who gave her iconic dad’s guitar away nor Olga’s mom who removed it from it’s safe perch and handed it over. You can see why it’s confusing the recipient of the guitar is being criticized.

        • Olga Stewart

          Thanks.

I have most of these idiots (including Bruno) blocked.

So they are just talking to themselves.

            “When you’re talkin’ to yourself

            And nobody’s home

            You can fool yourself”

          • Olga Stewart

            Ha ha!

She does act like she knows them personally. Especially Chris Cornell and his entire family, and even the thoughts in his head.

“…stay kind.” – tell that to your lunatic psychopath mother.

  • Ryan

Brett, you don’t have to write ‘Kurt Cobain’s Daughter…’. We know who Frances Bean Cobain is.

  • swcheetah

    That’s a bummer, She’s a great writer.

    • Ladyhawke

Exactly! I was overwhelmed by the heartfelt outpouring of emotion that she expressed in three vague sentences, before advising readers to “stay weird, stay kind”.
Having dispensed with the emotional feelings of losing Dad’s possessions, she then launches into a narcissistic, barely intelligible ramble about her communing with the universe. I’ll cut the young woman some slack – having been raised by Love would most certainly have skewed the brain cells somewhat. Stay weird, Frances.

      • swcheetah

I wasn’t being negative or sarcastic, her sentences about the universe are really good. She’s a bright mind.

        • Ladyhawke

My misinterpretation – sorry. Have removed the word “Exactly!” to avoid my comment looking like a run-on from yours. I was being negative and sarcastic.

      • Corndog

Yeah, she’s full of shite (and herself) alright.
