New Stone Temple Pilots frontman Jeff Gutt covered Velvet Revolver’s “Fall to Pieces” years ago when he thought of trying out to replace Scott Weiland in the legendary singer’s other band. Velvet Revolver fired Weiland in 2008 just as he was reuniting with Stone Temple Pilots and was dealing with a drug relapse and rehab stint.

Velvet Revolver spent a few years off and on searching for a new singer, even trying out Corey Taylor, but they never settled on a new frontman. Velvet Revolver reunited for a one off performance with Scott Weiland in January 2012, which ended up being the band’s final performance.

Soundchex posted on the BelowEmpty.com forums, “Here is a little known video off YouTube. I hope I don’t offend anyone by posting a Velvet Revolver cover tune here. But after Scott left VR Jeff thought of trying out for that gig. Excuse the sound quality as this song was recorded in Gary Pittel’s (guitar player) apartment and they used only an I-Phone set up against the TV. Hope you enjoy it.”
