Patrick Grant’s Fields Amaze Will Leave You Speechless

Unexpected rhythms, outside of the box instrumentation and a completely, uncompromising barrage of artistic individuality. This is the best way I can describe Patrick Grant. But in truth, I could throw out ten or twenty more catchy adjectives  at you in hopes of you understanding what it is I’m trying to tell you, but the fact is- you just have to hear it to believe it! Think about the farthest places out there that Pink Floyd took listeners on Dark Side of the Moon. You’re kind of there- or at least on the right path.

Based out of New York City, Patrick Grant studied at Juilliard, worked with the likes of Billy Joel and Quincy Jones and even was awarded the the 2012-13 Con Edison Musicians’ Residency: Composition Program at the Turtle Bay Music School administered by Exploring the Metropolis. His resume is no doubt impressive- but it is his music that truly speaks volumes.

It was twenty years ago that Patrick Grant released his debut album and now to celebrate it’s emerald anniversary, he is releasing a remastered and remixed update of that album, Fields Amaze and other sTRANGE music. Throughout the album’s nine tracks, Patrick Grant consistently finds a way to mesmerize listeners with his unique brand of music. An abundance of percussion instruments along with a healthy dose of keyboards serve as the pilots on this journey into the mind of one of the most innovative and exciting composers of our time.

The music can easily be the score from a film. And with that in mind- the album takes on a whole other dimension. Listening throughout the album gives off the impression it is the score to a film. The tension rises, pushes as releases. Moments of intense percussion sway in and out- almost like a conversation that goes from adversarial to nurtured. The mind-blowing scope of Fields Amaze and other sTRANGE music can’t be done justice with words. You just need to listen!

Come October 1st, be sure to check out this great re-release from Patrick Grant. If you love the uniqueness of early Pink Floyd and Tom Waits and are in search of that unexpected musical relation you didn’t know you needed, check out  Fields Amaze and other sTRANGE music!
