PEARL JAM TO ANNOUNCE TOUR NEXT WEEK, REVIEW OF FOUR NEW SONGS

A reader named PJ left a series of comments on our May 31st story about Pearl Jam’s Mind Your Manners single.

He claimed that when a countdown clock showed up on Pearl Jam’s website, the band would announce their full fall tour a week later. He said the date of the announcement would be July 8th.  He also claimed that the tour will take place in October, and that the album is likely to be released before the tour and that it could come out on October 1st. A song from Ukulele Songs will supposedly be on the new album.

PJ also just gave his review of the songs he heard from the album in the comments section of our story from yesterday, “The last two records have been billed in the pre album hype machine as their best since Vitalogy… except this one legitimately is. I’ve heard 4 songs. Shit is hot fire.”  He also reiterated the points he made in late May regarding the announcement.

What is confirmed is that the lead single from the new album will be “Mind Your Manners” and that it will be released to radio on July 16th.  Keep a lookout in the comments section on this story to see if any additional news could be leaked.

  • Karlos

Is the announcement going to be about the US tour only or are we talking world tour?

    • MH

Word is this year will be a US tour with a full world tour to follow 2014

  • Josh

While stoked about new PJ, I don’t want to see a full world tour happen. Matt’s needed in the SG camp.

    • Karlos

It’s pretty likely that 2014 is not about SG. King-Animal-touring will be done with these European dates. Maybe a few shows around Big Day Out down under. But SG will mostly remain on hold for the next year. Maybe 2015 again with a new album.

    • kevy

ya dats ok for u when u live in the u.s,what about the rest of the world .

  • whatever

There will be NO new Pearl Jam album to reach any “classic status” unless Stone’s the main songwriter. No more lazy and boring EV composed tracks.

    LET STONE COMPOSE THE MUSIC!!!

    • Zach

I love and hate this comment at the same time. Ha.

    • Patrick

yeah, let’s get back to the page/plant kinda song writing. Let Stone write the music and Eddie write the lyrics.

      • Grant

        They did that on backspacer.

  • TONI

Soundgarden will be finished touring King Animal by October. I don’t know about the US, but they have done 2-3 rounds of Europe now, and Septembers European dates will surely be the last tour for that album. October would then be the perfect time for Cameron to jump back over to PJ for a full word tour.

  • jon ian

whatever makes a brilliant point. Stone cowrote almost all the music from the first album and some of “Temple Of The Dog”. There’s a reason their debut is way better than their other releases.

  • Zach

You know, I don’t put much credence into the articles on this website, but I am digging these comments.

  • Mark

does PJ have any track names he can give? Or song descriptions? I believe him, I’m just dying to know!

    • Matt

      Mind Your Manners
      Ole
      Of the Earth

Those are all expected. You can find the last two on some of the boots from 2012. Of the Earth was played several times including Pensacola. Ole was played in South America as I recall, at least.

    • raudel

      Mind your manners

  • PrettyNoose66

I have seen about a dozen shows from the band; the most recent in 2011; A “major tour” is a big stretch. Eddie Vedder’s voice would fry more than it already has over the years if they took on an Advacado or Riot Act caliber tour. He doesn’t have the chops to pull it off anymore, and that is key.

The new LP, well we will have to see.

  • Fred Bob

How can you use a post in the comments section as headline news? Jesus, do we need to fill the countdown with any old headline grabbing speculation?
Last week there was Tides and all those song titles, forgive me if Im wrong but dont they look like title Mayan would come up with? Kickstop? Foliage?…. and it was an article on Antiquiet. People will get cynical about checking the news on your site if you are grasping and not confirming the info….

In other news, yay new PJ album! ;oD

  • Brain_of_K

I sincerely hope that this record knocks spots off of Backspacer. Also, it’ll be nice to see Matt Cameron focus on his main job again.

  • Big M

@whatever- I’ve said the same thing for years. Ed occasionally writes a good one, but in general it should have always been Gossard and McCready composing the music.

  • Scott

@PJ will either Of The Earth or Cold Concession be on the record?

    • PJ

I hope not. We’ve already heard Of The Earth and they said it couldn’t be captured in the studio like it is live. it surfaced two records ago and even at that, they haven’t played it as well as they did the first time in Dublin 6/22/10. It’s a monster recording and I love it… just hasn’t been topped since.

Unsure of Cold Concession or where you’re getting that title.

I won’t divulge the names of the songs I know in respect to my favorite band (I just think their management is a joke and hate that they’re being social media whores)

      • charles

PJ, any chance of getting a more in depth review of the songs you’ve heard? Maybe not lyric or titles but feelings. ..vibes. ..comparisons to past songs of theirs or others that are similar?

        • PJ

Let’s just say, Mike McFuckinCready is a BEAST.

I would agree that Mind Your Manners might evoke a STBC feel (not that it sounds the same)

But there is this one that is just HUGE. A classic Pearl Jam, mid-tempo, ballady in a not Just Breathe kinda way, monster that wouldn’t be suited for a first single. But neither was Black. McCready is just unfucking real.

          • Charles

Thank you for responding to me. That is an amazing description and I cannot wait to hear Sirens and the rest of the album. Again. Thank you.

          • Charles

And to add to this….there are so many negative people out there that want Ten revisited. They don’t realize that as we all grow older and hopefully wiser the band does the same. Their music changes and reshapes. Messages change, viewpoints…The state of the world we live in changes and shapes the music into something different as well. Each album since I was in middle school and Ten was released has had an impact on my life in one way or another. Their music has helped me through some pretty rough times and also helped me to reflect on better times providing a kind of soundtrack to my own life. I look forward to the next chapter taking me on another adventure. I’ll let it accompany me and guide me through whatever may come my way. Counting the days…eagerly anticipating. Hope we can hear something soon…cause I’d give almost anything to hear the new tracks.

  • drew

    cool!

i’ve got 20.00 that says ole and most likely, of the earth, will NOT be on this album though…………

jeff’s written the music to some of their best tunes, as eddie has; porch, RVM, corduroy, off he goes, etc, etc..

  • PharaohS Son

OK…Who is the clairvoyant PJ feller.

  • letsboltlm

PJ, perhaps the song from Ukelele Songs that will be on new album isn’t really from there but the Les Paul Uke song that Eddie began playing on his solo tour in 2012 starting in El Paso? Just a thought. And thanks for the tips you been giving. Props.

  • Boom

People put a lot of faith in random Internet rumors. The way this band works is nothin is official until they announce something themselves via PEARLJAM.com. Until such announcement is made every track listing and rumour is bullshit.
Keep getting excited but nothing is ready or confirmed until the band announces it. It’s been that way for 20 years, not gonna change now.

  • juca

    I LOVE PJ!!!!!
EDDIE FUCKING VEDDER IS GOD ;)

  • PJ

It wasn’t me but the the 2nd song mentioned here is what I am referring to. Sirens

    http://community.pearljam.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=210045

    • PJ

      It is epic

  • Brett Buchanan

Any more thoughts on the new songs PJ? Mind Your Manners and Sirens in particular?

    • PJ

The post in that thread is dead on the money

  • Brett Buchanan

FYI I didn’t report the ‘Tides’ thing, that’s not the type of thing I’d report. New reporters are still adjusting.

    • Spoonman

the tides rumor wasnt worthy but somehow this is?

  • ed

Can’t believe no one has mentioned this. I just searched for “mind your manners pearl jam” on youtube and got this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOmg9OCJ6ok
It pretty much sounds like a mess of many pearl jam songs mixed together, playing at the same time.
This may be nothing, but now that “mind your manners” is pretty much a confirmed name, I find it very strange a video was uploaded more than a year ago with that name. WTF?

  • aprayeh

Whenever it leaks, it leaks. All we know for sure is a mix of light from Backspacer and darker sounding tracks from various interviews. I really don’t take much credence into any reviews from unnamed sources or magazines like Rolling Stone for that matter. “return to form, best thing we’ve ever done, my favorite song we’ve ever done” Listen with your own ears and judges.

  • damien

    Getting really excited
    Can’t wait for it

  • Scott

@PJ Cold Concession was another song worked on during same time as Of The Earth during Avocado sessions. Might actually be titled Cold Confession.

    • PJ

I’ll say this, and it’s just my opinion. If Cold Concession is a left over that makes the record, 2 albums later, along with Of The Earth and The Uke Song I won’t say (and it’s not Can’t Keep, take 3)… 4 years after a 36 min record… that would redefine what it means to be lazy

      • Tenjam

Betterman was a song Eddie had even before the first album. And what a great song it is. We can’t think like that. Sometimes songs get better with the years till the point the artist is happy with it.

  • Mark

PJ… You gotta tell me… does Sirens just have a massive McCready solo? and is Mind Your Manners a rough screechy vocal punkish song?

  • GRUNGECASTER
