Former Queens of the Stone Age member Alain Johannes reunited with the band onstage in Chile to perform “Hangin’ Tree.” Josh Homme mentioned that ‘one of the greatest singers ever’ Mark Lanegan originally sang the song, but that he would give it his best.

Johannes is an accomplished musician having performed with Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Eleven, and Chris Cornell’s solo band. He was a member of QOTSA during the Lullabies to Paralyze era, and he also contributed to Era Vulgaris.

QOTSA have a history of welcoming back past members for guest performances, including a high profile reunion performance with Nick Oliveri at the Forum in Los Angeles on Halloween in 2014. Johannes also performed as a guest in 2014.

Queens of the Stone Age returned to The Forum on Los Angeles on Saturday, the same venue where frontman Josh Homme kicked photographer Chelsea Lauren’s camera at KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas in December.

Daily News reports that Homme acknowledged the incident, which went viral and which he apologized to fans for, after blasting through “If I Had a Tail” and “Monsters in the Parasol.”

“It’s good to be back at the Forum,” he said. “Much better than last time I was there.”

The concert has drawn very positive reviews, with QOTSA and Homme seemingly finding redemption after the disastrous December performance.

acidcastle posted on Reddit, “They were unbelivably great last night. They played everything with a bit of a twist. Especially that smooth sailing outtro! Stoked I got to hear my fave song as well (can’t quit me baby).”

neuroFUNKIN posted, “Amazing! The band was on point and all the songs from Villains sounds waaay better live, loved the dynamics and how much more fun The Way You Used To Do is. Songs For The Dead was was a fucking tune too, proper closer.
