Former Red Hot Chili Peppers/current Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro discussed the losses in rock to suicide last year in a new MusiCares video.

“We’ve lost a couple of friends this year, and I was just hit so emotionally and profoundly hard, because I’ve been in that space.”

“You go on tour, you’re feeling lonely, you’re feeling depressed, and now you’re stuck combatting everybody else’s projection of who they think you are, and having to fulfill that role, while in the depths of despair. Some of the loneliest times of my life have been in rooms of thousands of people.”

“What’s great about MusiCares is it is now recognized, and it is well known that it is here to help. The real challenge is letting people know that it is a great strength to reach out for support.”

Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington died by suicide last year. You can watch Dave Navarro’s new video below, and check out details for his ‘Above Ground’ show next month in Los Angeles below as well.
