Red Hot Chili Peppers fans have heard breakup rumors over the years with lineup changes seeing John Frusciante come in and out of the band, and Flea has now admitted in a new interview that he did consider a breakup at multiple points in the band’s illustrious near 40 year history.

Flea told Guardian about not writing about RHCP in his book, “I’m far enough away from childhood to have an objective view on it. It’s the reason I write about it in my book. My childhood is over. The band [Red Hot Chili Peppers] isn’t, which is why I didn’t write about it. The band is happening now. I don’t have any distance from the good parts and the bad parts of it yet.”

He also said, “I’ve been up and down about the band so many times. I’ve thought: ‘Can we continue without repeating ourselves?’ or: ‘I don’t want to do it any more, I want to grow, I don’t want to be held prisoner by money, fame or power.’ Then we’ll play a great show or write a song that has me tingling with excitement and I’m completely in love with it again.”

Chad Smith recently played with Slash and Post Malone, covering Alice In Chains and Black Sabbath. SwissBliss responded on Reddit, “War Pigs sounded legit as hell. Would have been cool if they did an RHCP cover. Not sure what song would best suit his voice. Maybe like Snow, Tell Me Baby or Dani California. Idk why I picked those to three SA ones but I bet he’d do them well.

Honestly a Post feature on the new album wouldn’t be a bad surprise.”
