Smashing Pumpkins touring bassist Jack Bates called out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for not inducting Soundgarden on Wednesday, while he celebrated Nine Inch Nails getting in. NIN, Depeche Mode, The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, The Notorious BIG, and T. Rex are set for induction. Dave Matthews Band topped the fan vote and are not being inducted. Billy Corgan recently broke his silence on Chris Cornell widow disrespect.
Jack Bates first tweeted, “Good to see @nineinchnails going into the @rockhall 👏 👌” A fan named Seth responded, “Bout time Smashing Pumpkins at least got nominated.”
Jack shot back, “Agreed. I feel the same way about a lot of other bands too. Most notably Joy Division/New Order.”
Another fan named Dan Seaman said, “Agreed. Too bad about soundgarden and JP though….”
Jack Bates wrote back, “Yeah I wanted Soundgarden to get in. They can join the ever growing list of bands that should be in that aren’t…”
Daweyo posted on Soundgarden’s Reddit, “Doesn’t really mean anything to me. The only thing that matters to me is what they meant to me, if you know what I mean. And no one can ever take that away.”
Metalsheepapocalypse responded, “Really surprised that Dave Matthews Band didn’t make it considering they had over a million votes on their online poll. Happy for Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails though. Definitely deserves it.”
Soundslave5150 chimed in, “I’m not the biggest NIN fan but Reznor and the band are definitely talented and deserving of the induction.
It doesn’t make sense DMB got the top spot and didn’t get it when every other fan vote winner got inducted. I don’t think DMB has really done anything influential enough to be in there though, so I understand that they got left out. However, the same could be said for T-Rex who did get in, so who knows anymore. I’ve gained more respect for the Hall over the last decade when they started inducting bands like Rush, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, PJ, SRV, etc. With this year’s class it seems like they went back to their old ways again.”
Blinkdude commented, “To be honest I kind of figured they wouldn’t get in this year. Relations between the band and Cornell family are pretty bad right now and i don’t think anyone would feel great showing up under negative circumstances. Let them in when everyone resolves their differences.
Also I bet they get inducted alongside Alice In Chains somewhere down the line. The rock hall is pretty savvy when it comes to pairing up bands so there will def be a “grunge” theme at some point.” Chris Cornell’s daughter unloaded on Eddie Vedder’s wife last month.
