The first 2018 photo of Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd has surfaced. Shepherd has only been photographed once since Chris Cornell’s funeral in May 2017, with Chris’ brother Peter sharing a new photo with Ben last fall.

Peter wrote on Instagram in November, “Brother of my Brother. Brother to my family. Showed up with gifts in hand. A loyal gentleman. Thanks Ben Shepherd for the Bainbridge Island hospitality. Much Love old Friend!”

The new 2018 photo was taken by a fan on March 31st in the Seattle area, and Ben looks in good spirits.

The fan wrote, “Was out to dinner for my birthday and had the pleasure of meeting Ben Shepherd…bass player for Soundgarden!”

A story from June 20, 2017 on Facebook surfaced back in August 2017 of a man named James claiming to have met Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd. In a beautiful act of kindness, the legendary Seattle musician bought James a cup of coffee.

At the time, it was the first reported story of Shepherd to surface since Chris Cornell’s death. According to the fan, Shepherd said he ‘used to be’ in a rock band called Soundgarden.

James wrote, “I met Ben Shepherd this morning from Soundgarden, he bought me a cup of coffee. You can tell he’s hurting. I didn’t know who he was at first. When I asked him what he does, he said I used to be in a rock band. I asked him what band, he said Soundgarden. I didn’t know what to say really. How sad, for him.”
