Stone Temple Pilots are celebrating their landmark debut album with the late Scott Weiland, Core, by releasing a remastered LP on November 13th. This comes 3 years after the 25th anniversary reissue, which featured the official release of the 1990 demo “Only Dying” for the first time ever.
STP said, “To celebrate 28 years of Core we’re happy to announce that the 2017 remastered LP will be available as a standalone release for the 1st time on Nov. 13th! STP originally had plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Core in 2012 and 2013 before Scott Weiland was fired, with the DeLeos revealing in 2017 that Weiland wanted to re-record “Only Dying” during this proposed Core 20th anniversary celebration, and that they would consider someday partially granting his wish by recording new instrumentals around his demo vocals.
The Cranberries recently recorded a full album after the death of Dolores O’Riordan using this concept, while Soundgarden are currently in a legal battle with Chris Cornell’s widow over gaining access to his vocal demos for the new album the band were working on at the time of his May 2017, including the songs “Road Less Travelled” and “Orphans.” A Smashing Pumpkins member just detailed meeting Scott Weiland and Chris Cornell.
