Stone Temple Pilots members Dean and Robert DeLeo discussed Chester Bennington’s death and funeral in a new interview on 2 Hours with Matt Pinfield.

Robert said regarding performing at the funeral, “That was a very very touching moment there, doing that.”

“I still am really not over the fact that Chester is gone, still not really over that. It’s hard to talk about him in the past tense. He was such a wonderful human being. You never really got the air from him that he was in a huge band, he never put that across as a human being. He was always the sweetest.”

Dean said, “That’s what took everyone by storm, Talinda posted a thing of 36 hours prior to that going down. He was playing with those jelly beans, so no one saw that coming. Like you said Robert, it’s hard to even fathom still. Even just yesterday, my wife and I are like, ‘I can’t believe it.’ What makes no sense to us, made complete sense to him. Here’s the saddest part of it, because what we saw externally, was not what was going on internally, obviously. So there was a real battle there.”

Robert later said, “All I know is every time we were together, we always had a smile, a hug, and a kiss for each other.”

Dean added, “I tell you, to be real honest with you man, I look at Chester as just this brother and this friend. I don’t even really ponder much about what we did musically, and we spent three years together. We spent a lot of time together in the last three or four years. What I really look back on is just the man, I don’t even look back on what we did musically, it’s more of just this brother.”

Robert said, “He was there for us when we needed it, he was there for us.”

Dean added, “Like an angel man.”

Robert later said, “I do want to say one thing, we have talked about two people who were very special in our lives that are not here anymore. I just wanted to say to everyone, appreciate the people that are still here. The people you listen to, and inspire you. Appreciate them while they are still here.”
