Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz discussed continuing to use the STP name without Scott Weiland in a new interview on 105.7 The Point. Kretz was asked if they considered changing the name after Weiland and Chester Bennington died. Alternative Nation transcribed his response.

“No, not at all.”

The DJ then asked if he’d heard about fan backlash.

“I didn’t hear about it, I read about it, but I didn’t hear about it. No one would say that to my face, but the little trolls would be on there.”

He added, “We have such deep love and respect for [Chester and Scott], but as far as moving forward, that’s a whole different topic. Every day, we talk about Chester and Scott, how much we appreciate them as artists, as humans, and what they contributed, and the times we had together.”

Kretz was then asked about the decision to move forward.

“When you come out of the depression, when you come out of the sadness, of course, you think about everything. It’s kind of like any breakup would be, where you are totally depressed and you hate yourself, you hate everything, and you hate the world. Just kind of coming out of the haze, you say you know what, we have a lot to contribute. We have a lot of joy in what we do, and we want to share it with everybody. There’s a lot of people who still want to see it and appreciate the shows.”
