Alternative Nation is proud to premiere The Desert Manifesto – a super-8-fairy-tale-journey through the magical world of The Great Escape. A Jim Morrison-esk poem walks you through six songs off their album Universe in Bloom. There are things known and unknown, and in between are The Great Escape.

The mini doc starts with dreamy desert imagery. Other portions of the film include a live performance that has trippy David Lynch imagery. Peter Harding did a great job directing it, there are light hearted moments like the band sharing a meal and, also a strong introspective quality to certain scenes.

The Great Escape’s music will definitely appeal to fans of Florence and the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, and The Beatles. They can go from being one of the most lush bands in recent memory to melting your face off and making you want to dance like crazy.

This range is shown throughout the documentary, the band have an undeniable charisma and it comes through in their music. This is definitely a band you will be hearing about more in the future. If you’re one of those fans claiming rock is dead, definitely check out The Great Escape’s “Universe In Bloom.”
