There have been strong rumors that the Pixies have been working on a new album this year. Last month Black Francis stated that he had been working really hard on writing new songs that would wow people, and said he had not written demos like this in years. He has made vague remarks hinting at new Pixies material throughout the year. He originally stated that the Pixies would record a new album back in 2006. Jon Tiven has been rumored as possibly producing, due to some Facebook conversations with Joey Santiago. Dave Lovering stated in a Drum Sticks interview that the Pixies will be back in 2013.

Black Francis posted this on his Facebook a week or so ago:

“We’re all water from different rivers
That’s why it’s so easy to meet
We’re all water in this vast, vast ocean
Someday we’ll evaporate together

-Yoko Ono”

The Pixies have only released one new song since reuniting in 2004, the Kim Deal penned “Bam Thwok,” released in 2004. Their last album was 1991’s Trompe le Monde.

It’s about time! It’s embarrassing when legendary bands get back together without putting out new music first.

WOW!! Last I heard Kim Deal refused to do a new album for fear of tarnishing their legacy. This is gonna be interesting if true.

  • Grunge Addict

what was that song “Bam Thwok” released on..a soundtrack or a compilation or something?

  • ManBeast

Wow didn’t know the Pixies were working on new material!

I never heard the “tarnishing their legacy” quote. I think their legacy was more tarnished when they reunited only to make money touring off their old songs. Sex Pistols & Pavement did the same thing unfortunately.
