Former Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello discussed Chris Cornell’s personality on BBC’s The First Time With. Alternative Nation transcribed his comments.

“So Chris was a- meeting him when our timeline with Audioslave began my first impression was he was a very mysterious and shadowy person. I mean, he had a haunting thing that was absolutely real. You know, you read those lyrics and you know, when it goes dark it’s real.

Rick Rubin and I drove to his house in Ojai and he lives in the last house on the left-it’s becoming dusk and there’s a long stairway, there’s some motorcycles out front, the doors sort of open of their own accord, in walks this lanky figure coming down the steps and we hadn’t really met and we’re in the car and Rick turns to me and goes, ‘Let’s get the F out of here.’

I’m like, it is getting dark. Anyway, Chris was lovely. HE did have that mysterious side but he was a lovely person who cared a great deal about doing good in the world and his effusive talent, he’s unmatched, certainly in that era and he’s one of the greatest rock singers of all time.”
