Tool New Album May Have Foo Fighters Connection

Tool producer Joe Barresi recently shared new studio photos as Adam Jones continues to record his guitar parts for the band’s new album. One photo features gear from Sound City Studios, which Dave Grohl famously made a documentary and album about in 2013 following its 2011 closure. The studio reopened in 2017, so it’s unclear if this is gear from the original studio (which Grohl bought some of), or if it may have been taken in the reopened new one. Barresi has exclusively been sharing photos of Tool in the studio in recent months, though it is possible it could be from a different project, but all of the comments are regarding Tool.

Sound City Studios is a recording studio incorporated in 1969, located in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California, USA. The facility had previously been a production factory of the British musical instrument manufacturer, Vox.

Sound City contributed its signature analog sound to more than a hundred certified gold and platinum albums. The studio was privately held from 1970, until it closed its commercial studio services in May 2011. It was reserved for the exclusive use of its tenants, Fairfax Recordings from 2011 through 2016, before officially being reopened in early 2017. Dave Grohl, former Nirvana drummer and current frontman of Foo Fighters, purchased the Neve Electronics 8028 Console from Studio A, installing it in his private recording studio.

Tool recorded their debut full length album Undertow at Sound City in 1993.
