Legendary Velvet Revolver and Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum discussed the birthday of late Linkin Park and Stone Temple Pilots frontman Chester Bennington in a recent Instagram post.

“Happy Birthday to this wonderful , kind , fun , energetic man Chester Bennington , this is the Chester I knew and loved. He was the most professional easy going musician I ever worked with.

Never played the Rockstar except onstage where he sang to the highest level every night. I am so honored I met him and he will always live in my heart and the hearts of so many fans and friends worldwide. We miss you here on the planet Chester. You were pure magic #rip #chesterbennington”

When asked if he often revisits Velvet Revolver’s first album Contraband in a new Loudwire Nights interview, Sorum says, “I can’t say I do, my wife loves that record. She listens to it more than I do. It’s interesting, I need to go back and listen to some of these things sometimes before I play them again because I get different interpretations of what maybe I recorded the first time. I mean that record was like the same feeling, with Deadland Ritual, was the same feeling I had when going in and making Velvet Revolver’s first album. It’s a renewed energy, you do have to really step it up because you’re unleashing something to the world that they might or might not wanna resonate towards.”
