Sammy Hagar recently responded to fan suggestions regarding Van Halen organizing a farewell concert similar to Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” event. He shared his thoughts in a post on Instagram.
The former Van Halen frontman’s response came after he reflected on his recent experiences. He has addressed fan comments about a potential Van Halen farewell show.
Hagar said, “Wow! The last month has been one of the craziest, most interesting months of my life. Once I sort out the content I will share some stuff with ya’ll. The Ozzy Sabbath event was probably the most normal part of the month! yes I said that. It’s always good to be home wherever that is.”
A fan commented on his post suggesting Van Halen should have done something similar to the Sabbath farewell show, calling it “a missed opportunity.”
Hagar’s response was brief but telling.
“Exactly,” he replied.
Hagar’s reaction comes amid renewed interest in Van Halen’s legacy and the possibility of a farewell performance that never materialized.
Eddie Van Halen had actually planned to reunite the original Van Halen lineup for a final farewell tour before his passing in 2020. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt recalled Eddie’s excitement about the band coming together “to go out the way we came in.” This would have included bassist Michael Anthony alongside the Van Halen brothers and David Lee Roth.
Van Halen’s original frontman David Lee Roth recently returned to live performances this year. He headlined shows including the M3 Rock Festival and has concert at The Mountain Winery. This marked his first concert since 2020.
The connection between Hagar and the Black Sabbath farewell event runs deeper than his recent Instagram post. Both Sammy Hagar and Wolfgang Van Halen participated in Ozzy Osbourne’s final performance at Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” show in July 2025. They joined an all-star lineup for the historic event that celebrated Ozzy’s farewell and Black Sabbath’s reunion after nearly two decades.
