Linkin Park Address Grammy Loss as Emily Armstrong Praises Lady Gaga
Linkin Park were on the Grammys circuit this weekend, with the band discussing their journey since the death of Chester Bennington while singer Emily Armstrong used the red carpet to spotlight the community she says has supported her.
In an interview clip shared online, Armstrong spoke about being proud of the band’s LGBTQ fans and also singled out Lady Gaga for praise, according to BroodingAnanas, which reposted the footage credited to GLAAD via Instagram.
Elsewhere during Grammy night coverage, the band’s Mike Shinoda reflected on how dramatically things changed after Bennington’s death, saying the group had to “rebuild everything” and began by simply hanging out to see if there was momentum before meeting Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain and “taking some big swings,” as recapped by the fan account Linkin Park Live.
The comments arrived as Linkin Park continued to navigate a new chapter that balances their legacy with new personnel, following recent discussions about fan culture around major rock tours, including when the band took issue with ‘bros’ at Metallica shows.
With Grammys weekend putting a spotlight on both their past and present, Linkin Park’s messages leaned toward gratitude and rebuilding, while Armstrong’s remarks underlined the band’s desire to keep its tent wide for the listeners who have grown with them.
