Sluka is a name that just catches your eyes when you see it and catches your ear when you hear it. It’s always great to stumble across a band that is different. Now, ‘different’ can come in many forms. You see, some bands have a regular run of the mill name and then have crazy music. Other bands have crazy names, but run of the mill music. I am so glad to tell you that Sluka has a great name and great music to go hand in hand with.

Sluka wasn’t just a name chosen out of nowhere. Sluka is named after its lead person, Christopher Sluka. Christopher is a singer, songwriter, musician, and performer. Christopher has recorded eleven studio albums and has a fan base that spans across continents which is truly such an incredible resume right off the rip.

As we dive a bit deeper into the brains behind the act, we see that Christopher was born near Seattle. As many of our readers know, Seattle is such a pinnacle place for artists and it always seems that so many great minds and bands just flourish out of that area. Blame it on the weather, I suppose. Christopher enjoyed a multinational upbringing as he was raised all around the world, with his family never spending more than a couple of years in any one location – a life experience that is evident in his cosmopolitan musical compositions.

At the start of his career, performing on the New York Club scene, Christopher found himself in the same melting pot with artists such as Tears For Fears, INXS, Talk Talk and Simple Minds. After recording a single in Los Angeles (with Cat Gray who worked extensively with Prince), he found an appreciative audience in Japan, where he went on to release a further two albums.

Christopher is just so incredibly fascinating even without having heard the music yet, so let’s dive into that.

The newest release from Sluka is “Happy In Your World”. The song is about us,… humanity, and everything throughout our history having happened on this “Pale Blue Dot” as Carl Sagan famously said “On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.”
The track is the third single from the upcoming 13th album “Figure It Out” by the band SLUKA, a progressive alt.rock band based in San Diego.

A very beautiful way to put it.

The song starts with a haunting piano melody that seemingly could go on forever and just make you think about life and everything that goes along with it. With a pause – in comes Christopher with a crooning voice that begs the question “Is all of this real?” The chord changes and tonal changes in his voice are perfectly executed.

A bass drum then comes in and we are off to the races. The buildup all makes sense now and I feel like we are in a dark carnival ride to a destination that is unknown. I’m seeing fire and clowns flying through the air as a mime takes the stage to sing what Christopher is singing. The track has somewhat of a tempo change near the end as the production work gets even better. I feel like the carnival is burning down at this point and then a cymbal slowly rings out as a violin plays as if the Titanic just went down. This song is one of the most theatrical tracks I’ve ever heard. Ever. What a ride and how fun it was. Great job here.

Grammy Award winner Alan Sanderson produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered the recording at Pacific Beat Recording Studio in San Diego. He has worked with BB King, Weezer, Fiona Apple, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Rolling Stones, and many others on some of their biggest hits.

I only see big things coming for Sluka.
