Former Red Hot Chili Peppers and current Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro recently interviewed former Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello on the Dark Matter podcast. Navarro remembered Morello’s eulogy for Chris Cornell, and how he discussed the Soundgarden song “Hands All Over”. Morello said Cornell’s lyrics in “Hands All Over” with prescient when it comes to mother earth, and the horrific Woolsey Fire that recently ravaged the Los Angeles area. Alternative Nation transcribed their comments.

Navarro said, “Oddly enough, and we’ve been through so many things together, and we’ve seen so many things being in this town, living in this town. I don’t want to stay on this, but you spoke on Chris’ funeral, and it stuck with me. I’m not going to get into that, but it stuck with me that you brought up ‘Hands All Over’ which is my all time favorite Soundgarden song. I was just like, that’s the one.”

He added, “I mean when I first heard that song, I was like, oh no.”

Morello said, “And in light of these recent wild fires, it was prescient in a way too. It’s a song about mother earth, and the ravaging that was going on 30 years ago. It’s got a bad ass riff.”

Navarro added, “It almost had a Zeppelin feel too.”
