Music Industry Legend Blames Dave Grohl For Josh Homme’s Issue With Photographers

Legendary music photographer Paul Natkin was interviewed on WGN Radio and discussed Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme photographer Chelsea Lauren last month at a show in Los Angeles.

Natkin mentioned how bands used to love photographers before MTV and the growing entertainment media industry turned them into celebrities. He mentioned that some bands then started cussing at him, but he never had any incident like the Josh Homme one.

“I never had any problems with him, but I think he’s hanging out with Dave Grohl too much.”

He added, “Well Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters hate photographers more than any other bands on the planet. They don’t let anybody shoot pictures of them. There’s a famous story, there’s a newspaper called City Pages in Minneapolis, and they sent a writer to review the Foo Fighters show, and they wouldn’t allow their photographer in, so they drew a stick figure of him with a guitar and put it on the front page of the paper. I actually met the editor shortly after that, and gave her a big hug.”

He later said, “It’s just the crazy rock star doing something stupid.”

  • How many photographers has Grohl kicked?

    • Kay B

Agree. I was at a concert in Chicago years ago and Dave happened to be in front of me. I was obviously much shorter than him and he turned around and asked me if I could see. I couldn’t so he moved and made sure I could see the whole concert. My take is that he is a nice guy.

  • Olga Stewart

Yes but Dave Grohl and his bandmates haven’t kicked any photographers.

So it’s quite a bit of a leap to blame Dave and his bandmates for Josh’s behaviour towards that particular photographer (from last month).

It’s quite a leap to blame anyone for a grown man’s actions.

      • Olga Stewart

I’m not sure if you are agreeing with me or not?

        • Lilly2

          Yes I was. 🙂

          • Olga Stewart

            Ah kay.

And thanks for letting me know. :).

It does seem night and day between the two. Foo Fighters don’t like photographers, so they don’t give them special access. QoTSA doesn’t like ’em so they kick them. You don’t have to have them there….

The guy being interviewed seems a little entitled too.

  • Stone Gossardish

No one is to blame but Homme. This is misplaced, and the guy prob realizes that by now.

Oh please. First off, he sidekicked her camera, not her.

Chelsea Lauren made this into waaaaay bigger of a deal than it actually was; and the press didn’t help because nobody actually went and investigated her claims. Josh took responsibility – but her acting like he wanted to hurt her and targeted her and like she had to go to the ER? Come on now.

Nobody should be kicked, and nobody’s property should be damaged, and I know josh feels bad – but she milked this for all it was worth- not sure why…looking for a payout perhaps?

Certainly he should replace anything that was damaged, but the hate and speculation with people acting like they know what he was thinking and it was some misogyny or something? At worst the guy was fucked up and misjudged….

    • Olga Stewart

I guess I will have to respectfully disagree with that because no one should be kicking at either another person or camera, period.

It’s not about hate and speculation.

It’s about acting like a decent human being.
