The Metallica Blacklist is a various artists tribute album featuring covers of every track from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album (commonly known as The Black Album). The collection was assembled in part with the original album’s 30th anniversary. Most of the songs are covered multiple times, with 53 artists participating. The album was released in digital formats on September 10th, 2021, and in physical formats on October 1st, 2021.
One of those artists to participate is none other than the legendary and iconic Elton John, who most recently was booed. Elton would join a who’s who of fellow musicians to cover the classic Metallica track ‘Nothing Else Matters’.
Elton John appeared on Metallica tribute album
During a recent interview with NME, guitarist Kirk Hammett discussed the impact of having the ‘Rocket Man’ singer on this tribute album, but more importantly having Elton John singing Metallica material. Credit to the outlet for the following quote.
“Having Elton appear on ‘Nothing Else Matters’ [with Miley Cyrus] felt like a culmination because he was a huge inspiration to everyone in the band so for him to play on one of our songs is a huge honor.”
In other news involving Metallica, during a recent interview with Loudersound, Anthrax bandmate Scott Ian discussed meeting Metallica for the first time. Credit to the outlet for the below.
“When Metallica got to New York, they’d drove across in a truck. [future Megaforce Records boss] Johnny [Z] said, ‘Why don’t you guys go meet them, I got them a room there too so they can rehearse, but they’re also going to be living there. I’m like ‘What?! They can’t live there – it’s horrible and is in one of the worst neighborhoods in New York, don’t they have hotels or houses they can stay at?’. And he tells us there’s no money for anything like that. So Danny and I went down there and met them for the first time and of course, they start asking us, ‘Do you guys know where we’re staying?’ I’m like, ‘Call Johnny Z – let him tell you because I’m not breaking that news!”
