Taylor Momsen discussed recording “Only Love Can Save Me Now” on The Pretty Reckless’ new album Death By Rock and Roll with surviving Soundgarden members Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron in a new Appetite for Distortion podcast interview. Alternative Nation transcribed her comments.

“That one I needed to sit with, to see it to its full potential. When I finished writing it I called Matt and Kim, I’ve become relatively close to them over the years and everything that we all went through together.

I called them, I sent them a demo, and I said, ‘Would you guys want to play on this? I think your unique voice, that is unlike anyone else, would really take this song and make it something extraordinarily special. The song itself is something that I really worked incredibly hard on, and I love, but I think you guys could take it to its full potential.’ They said yes.

To make a long story short, it was a fantastic experience, it was one of the last songs we recorded. We did it in Seattle at London Bridge Studios, where Soundgarden made Louder Than Love, Pearl Jam recorded Ten, and Alice In Chains made Dirt. I don’t want to speak for them, because that’s not my place, but for me, it was a very full circle moment.

With everything we’ve been through, to be in that studio and that space, together again, creating something new, at least for me was a very beautiful full circle moment that was incredible. That song is certainly one of my favorite songs on that album, I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Momsen fronted Soundgarden at the ‘I Am The Highway’ Chris Cornell tribute show in 2019.
