Former WWE, WCW, and TNA wrestling personality Jim Cornette ripped Stone Temple Pilots in a new podcast while discussing a wrestler named Russ McCullough, who he worked with when in charge of WWE’s former developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling.

Cornette has been criticized in the wrestling industry for being horribly out of touch and stuck in the 80’s even as far back as the 90’s, and he proves it in this story.

“[Russ] came to me and said, ‘Can I use this music? This will be great [as my entrance music].’ I’ll say the name of the song in a minute because that’s kind of the punchline. I’m trying to think of the group, you’ll probably be able to call it, but I can’t remember who it was. It was 1999, it was one of those (hums Stone Temple Pilots ‘Dead and Bloated’ opening melody).

It was heavy metal kind of fucking Grunge punk, whatever the fuck it was back in those days. The song title, and here’s a 7 foot 320 something pound fishy pale pudgy fucking motherfucker who is not natural at anything involved in this business. (Laughs) The title of the song is ‘Dead and Bloated.’ You don’t hear the words ‘dead and bloated,’ but it was (hums melody). The song was ‘Dead and Bloated,’ and the pace of it was (hums again) burdensome, just fucking dreary, no life to it.”

He called the song ‘dreary’ again when describing the wrestler entering, saying he couldn’t connect with the crowd as a good guy character, so he sent out Batista and told him to switch from villain to good guy and to win the match quickly. He also claimed the words ‘dead and bloated’ weren’t sang in “Dead and Bloated” when its sang many times throughout the song, including in the melody that Cornette was humming that is at the very beginning of the song.
