Stone Temple Pilots’ new single “The Art of Letting Go” has been released. Instrumentally, the track is a throwback to some of STP’s more laid back melodic tracks on Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop like “Adhesive” and “And So I Know.” Dean DeLeo’s guitar solo in particular is a reminiscient of his more experimental playing, and it’s the first time he’s really ventures into this type of lush sound since Army of Anyone’s 2006 album.

The track is vastly different from “Meadow” and “Roll Me Under” and will definitely please STP’s die hard fans. Jeff Gutt delivers a strong chorus, and listening to the track it really sounds like something Scott Weiland would have loved to sink his teeth into. This will definitely take additional listens to see how it stacks up to the DeLeos’ past material in STP, Army of Anyone, and Talk Show, but it will definitely be a welcome surprise for fans who thought the previous two tracks released leaned a bit too generic rock.

Listen to the song below via Spotify. STP will release their new self-titled album on March 16th, with tour dates planned in the spring to promote the release of the new album.
