John Corabi recently spoke out against rumors that The Dead Daisies is just a billionaire’s hobby project, firmly defending his bandmate David Lowy in an interview with Louder Sound.
When asked about Lowy’s background , coming from a family of businesspeople worth billions, Corabi made it clear that wealth doesn’t define their work together. He said you’d never know David came from money, describing him as humble and one of the hardest-working people he knows.
Corabi directly addressed critics who dismiss the band’s legitimacy, saying he takes offense at comments calling it “just some billionaire’s hobby.” He explained that Lowy is fully involved in every record, spending long hours in the studio and stressing over details just like the rest of them. Corabi praised Lowy’s mix of creative and business talent, which he believes is put to excellent use.
This defense lines up with how The Dead Daisies have approached their music since forming in Sydney back in 2012, founded by Lowy and Jon Stevens. From the start, they’ve positioned themselves as a real rock band, not just a side project.
Their lineup over the years has included well-known musicians like Richard Fortus and Dizzy Reed of Guns N’ Roses, showing the band’s serious place in the rock world. Lowy himself has a long history in music beyond The Dead Daisies, having worked with Australian bands like Red Phoenix and Mink, showing his genuine passion and experience in the industry.
Their first album was recorded in Los Angeles in 2012, and they’ve kept up an active touring and recording schedule ever since. This professional track record supports Corabi’s point that The Dead Daisies is a committed musical project, not just a pastime for someone with deep pockets.
