The White House recently clapped back at musician Jack White after his criticism of President Donald Trump’s redesign of the Oval Office via Newsweek.

On Monday, the former frontman of The White Stripes described the office as a “vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler’s dressing room,” and an “embarrassment to American history.”

In March, Trump renovated the Oval Office, incorporating gold trim, large frames, gilded mirrors, gold eagles, and accessories that featured his name.

White has previously criticized Trump and initiated legal action against his 2024 campaign for using a White Stripes song in a video. However, the band later chose to drop the lawsuit.

In other social media posts, White has also called Trump “a known obvious fascist” and a “wannabe dictator.”

On Monday, White dropped a photo on Instagram of Trump speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, captioned:

“Look at how disgusting trump has transformed the historic White House. It’s now a vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler’s dressing room. Can’t wait for the UFC match on the front lawn too, he’s almost fully achieved the movie ‘Idiocracy’. Look at his disgusting taste, would you even buy a used car from this conman, let alone give him the nuclear codes? A gold plated trump bible would look perfect up on that mantle with a pair of trump shoes on either side wouldn’t it? What an embarrassment to American history.”

White added: “Also pictured in this photograph, a REAL leader of a nation in a black suit,” referring to Zelensky.

Responding to White’s comments, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung told The Daily Beast: “Jack White is a washed up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career.”

He added: “It’s apparent he’s been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of ‘The People’s House.'”
