A Perfect Circle have announced that their first album in well over a decade will be titled The Doomed. The band released a teaser on social media. The album is set for release in 2018. There is a chance that this could be the name of the lead single and not the album.

A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel discussed the band’s in the works in album in a May AJC interview. He said the band cannot rush the album, because it is similar to performing in the bedroom.

“You can’t say, ‘hurry up, create’,” Howerdel says. “It’s like performing in the bedroom. For the most part intimacy and true emotion come from a natural place and you can’t force it. It has to come from chemistry and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

He also discussed his creative process.

“If you can work on something a long time and still feel butterflies, that’s the mark I go for,” Howerdel said. “I understand letting go and into the world but once you do, you have to be happy with it.”

Howerdel said new material is influenced by a more Depeche Mode, electronic and “dance-y” sound.

Three songs that Howerdel considers some of the better ones he’s written are in the pile, but he isn’t sure if they’d fit more with his solo work with Ashes Divide or A Perfect Circle. Maynard James Keenan will help determine this.

“When creativity hits quick, the meat of something is present immediately,” Howerdel said.

On the current tour, A Perfect Circle is performing two new songs, “Hourglass” and “Feathers.”

“I can see heads bobbing, eyes closing and tuning out,” Howerdel said.
