Former Ace Frehley drummer Matt Starr recently revealed new details regarding the upcoming tribute concerts in New York celebrating the longtime KISS guitarist’s solo work. Starr, who played with Frehley for more than a decade, said the performances are being planned as a focused salute to Frehley’s catalogue, with a setlist built around a landmark release from the late 1970s.
Starr stated that the tribute plan includes playing the entire 1978 Ace Frehley solo album during the shows. He added that he expects to perform “a couple of shows” in New York and is looking forward to reuniting with his former bandmates for the celebration.
In the interview with Classic Rock History, Starr framed the gigs as a chance to honour Frehley by revisiting the songs in full rather than cherry-picking fan favourites. He called the prospect of running the 1978 record start-to-finish “a blast,” signalling that the concerts are intended as a complete album experience for longtime listeners.
“As of now, I’m doing a couple of shows with them in New York to celebrate Ace,” Starr said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the guys and playing those songs.”
“We’re doing the entire 1978 solo record; it’s going to be a blast,” he continued.
Frehley’s wider legacy has continued to draw collector interest as well, with memorabilia and instruments tied to his career commanding major attention, including when Ace Frehley’s guitar was auctioned for six figures in separate recent coverage.
No specific dates, venues, or additional lineup details were provided in the remarks, but Starr’s comments indicate the tribute shows are moving forward with New York as the initial base. If confirmed, the concerts would give fans a rare opportunity to hear Frehley’s 1978 solo LP performed in full in a live setting.
