FLAMING LIPS frontman WAYNE COYNE calls BILLY CORGAN an “A**HOLE.”

In the summer of 1994, SMASHING PUMPKINS joined the Lollapalooza tour with Green Day. According to the new book “Lollapalooza: The Uncensored Story of Alternative Rock’s Wildest Festival” by authors Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour, frontman Billy Corgan pissed off quite a few people on the tour.

As described in the book, Corgan allegedly antagonized the audiences by verbally abusing them, allegedly bullied his crew, and would allegedly throw tantrums during sound checks.

Along with Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Green Day, The Breeders, and many others, The Flaming Lips were also on the bill that year. Recalling Lollapalooza 1994, singer Wayne Coyne said of the Smashing Pumpkins frontman: “Billy Corgan was such a raging a–hole.”

On why Corgan seemed to trigger his fellow musicians, author Richard Bienstock added: “Billy Corgan embraces the big rock gestures and the big rock idea. That was not really what these other bands were doing at that time.”
