The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan was asked a disturbing question in a recent Instagram story Q&A, if he would want the Pumpkins to continue without him if he were to die, like Alice In Chains have without Layne Staley.

Thoughts on bands like STP, AIC, Blind Melon continuing with new singers?

“Absolutely. Great bands, great legacies, and there’s new music to make, too.”

Continuing the AIC question, would you want the Pumpkins to continue without you?

“Morbid, no?”

AIC in particular have been killing it – William DuVall is a monster frontman.

“Totally agree. Their latest album is great, too.”

The Alice In Chains show last night at Wembley was INCREDIBLE!!!!

“That’s great to hear. Their last album was very impressive.”

Ever met Mark Lanegan?

“Yes. Great, great artist, songwriter, and singer.”

Lost a friend to suicide, been rough but your music reminds me of the beautiful memories.

“It’s shameful how we are in the midst of a suicide epidemic and there doesn’t seem to be any alarm over it (and I am including opioid addiction in that).”

Is it weird to continuously be recognized as ahead of your time and still never given credit?

“Credit from a culture that is sick, obsessed with death and cruelty, and celebrates those of little contribution or accomplishment is no credit at all.”
