Brent Hinds at fault for his death
The Atlanta Police Department said in a new report that late Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds was riding his Harley Davidson at a speed between 63 and 68 mph – nearly twice the posted limit – when he collided with a BMW SUV at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Boulevard. Investigators used traffic camera footage to determine his speed and cited witness accounts describing him as “driving fast.” This news comes from Atlanta News First.
Hinds was ‘breathing and moving’ after the accident, but later died. The driver in the SUV was hospitalized with injuries to the head and arms. It was initially alleged that the SUV driver was at fault.
Brent Hinds’ last music project
Despite leaving Mastodon earlier this year, Brent Hinds was working on new music.
In the days following Brent Hinds’ death on August 20th, former professional skateboarder and musician Bam Margera took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late guitarist.
Reflecting on his friendship with Hinds, Margera recalled how they first met.
“I am devastated and still processing the tragic loss of one of my closest friends Brent Hinds,” he wrote. “Around the time Ryan Dunn died, I met Brent on the Soundwave Festival in Australia and said to him in a joking way ‘you look and act like Ryan Dunn and we should just be best friends’ and he said ‘ok’ and just like that we were.”
In March of this year, Hinds announced he was parting ways with Mastodon, 25 years after co-founding the band.
Margera has now revealed that before Hinds’ fatal motorcycle accident, the two of them had been collaborating on a new music project together.
“Brent and I recently had been recording tracks on a new album with a new band I have been doing vocals with called Amore Ad Lunam. It has been a privilege and honor working with Brent. I cherish the time we spent together working on guitar tracks and vocals that we just very recently layed [sic] down together.“
“R.I.P brother,” Margera concluded.
