Chris Cornell’s daughter Toni paid tribute paid tribute to fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld on social media on Tuesday. Following health complications in January 2019, Lagerfeld was admitted to the American Hospital of Paris in Parisian suburb Neuilly-sur-Seine on February 18th. The morning after, he died at that hospital, aged 85. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

“A few years ago I wore a shirt that said ‘Karl is my father’ to my first ever fashion show that was held for Saint Laurent. From the influence of my dad always telling me to express myself with the clothes I wore, I chose to wear that shirt, and a jacket that Karl Lagerfeld designed. I’ve always had a love for the art of fashion since I was very little, Karl being my main inspiration. He also inspired me to become a photographer, showing that you could express yourself with not only fashion but photography as well. He was an artist who will leave an everlasting mark on the world, and continue to pave the way for other artists like myself. Rest In Peace Karl. 💔💔”

“We are deeply saddened to learn the news of Karl Lagerfeld’s passing today,” Caroline Rush, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, said Tuesday. “His unrivaled contribution to the fashion industry changed the way women dress and perceive fashion. He inspired generations of young designers and will continue to do so.”

Lagerfeld was a German creative director, fashion designer, artist, photographer and caricaturist who lived in Paris. He was known as the creative director of the French luxury fashion house Chanel (from 1983 until his death), as well as creative director of the Italian fur and leather goods fashion house Fendi and his own eponymous fashion label. Over the decades, he collaborated on a variety of fashion and art-related projects. He was well recognized around the world for his white hair, black sunglasses, fingerless gloves, and high starched collars.
